Exactly. Verifiable offchain computation is what lets Ethereum scale. Onchain state is what makes it composable. Ethereum's endgame is to hold the world's state.
Slice applies this thesis to commerce, and doing it properly meant rebuilding commerce from scratch. I'll be going deep on this soon, but in a nutshell, when state moves onchain:
- New primitives become possible, enabling more powerful, automated processes — on Slice we call this "smart commerce".
- Many problems typical of web2 disappear.
- New problems appear.
DeFi showed what happens when one domain's state moves onchain. We're doing the same for commerce, and I expect the pattern to repeat across most domains over time.
I believe one of Ethereum's main challenges is resolving the tension between privacy and composability. Ethereum wins when developers and users can decide what is private, shared or public, and everything stays composable. That's why I'm so excited about obfuscation.
Most of the building blocks are in place, and the design space in commerce is immense. Truly grateful to everyone who has contributed and keeps contributing to Ethereum for making possible a future worth building toward.
This tweet is already bullish, and I want to add some nuance because the way I see it there is something even subtler and more awesome about it
Yes, pushing computation “offchain” with the computation committed to and proven succinctly onchain is awesome because it saves a ton of work to the network and allows for super light nodes. That’s a cryptographic world bulletin board, but not quite a computer imo
Indeed, a world computer should also be the main owner of its state. You can keep state offchain, meaning that contention resolves out of band from the ethereum network. This is not necessarily something we want however, because the state of ethereum, its liquidity, its accessibility, is a huge part of why ethereum enjoys such massive network effects.
When a liquidation is meant to resolve, I don’t want it to resolve on Aave’s server, with a brittle API governing access to the pool’s state and its updates. I want the ability to learn the state of the pool by looking at the chain, and the ability to act upon that state unmediated by sending a transaction that I know will be included given ethereum’s peerless censorship-resistance and that I know will execute given ethereum’s 100% uptime.
This still leaves room for a lot of presettlement infra stitching things together, but it’s much stronger than ethereum being a “simple” checkpoint for what’s happening outside of a limited view of the world state. Composability is the superpower of blockchains, and the more granular and accessible state is onchain, the more permissionless it becomes to compose and innovate.
The vision of ethlabs as I’d put it is to have the best state for the L1 as liquidity hub and the most secure place to hold and mint assets from, with L2s spawning differentiated state neighbourhoods that both leverage and reinforce L1’s, bringing new users, more liquidity and growing the onchain economy by eating the offchain one. That’s what we mean when we say ethereum becoming the root of the global economy.
For this we need scale, speed and security. We’ll be pushing hard on those!

the endgame is portable accounts that can authenticate and authorize payments across apps and devices. that solves the same problem across industries.
no need to turn a game controller into a payment terminal. it's time to upgrade the web's identity layer.

No one should have to hand over their passport just to be able to pay.
You’ll never have to KYC to buy on Slice.
‼️ BREAKING: Revolut handed over customers’ passport copies, verification selfies and full transaction histories to a malicious actor.
The actor sent lawful government information-demand emails using a genuine government domain that passed domain authentication.
Revolut later concluded they were not authentic.
Affected customers were notified on Friday. What may have been disclosed ranges from name, date of birth and home address to account statements, withdrawal records and complete Bitcoin transaction history.
The company says it has alerted the agency to the unauthorised mailbox on its domain, blocked the address and begun notifying regulators.
It has not named the agency, explained how someone obtained a mailbox there, or given a number of affected customers.
ZachXBT, who circulated the notices, believes the incident was limited in size and aimed at high-net-worth users.

commerce needs new rails and primitives if we want agentic commerce to reach its full potential without becoming a security nightmare.
good news is we’re building them at @slice__so, and we're almost done.

We don’t say this lightly.
Slice enables an entirely new class of commerce products. We’re still uncovering its potential as we build on it.
Our upcoming product will make that much clearer. Others will follow.
Get in early. The market will reward you.

The deaths are greatly exaggerated, but I also think this is directionally correct about the UX endgame.
Wallets aren’t going anywhere anytime soon -- if anything, wallets like @ambire will become more important as adoption and demand for self-custody grow. But there’s clearly a need for a new class of wallets that are app-native, portable, and invisible to the user.
We’re taking a similar path at @slice__so (see below), while making an even bigger bet: that this model can change not just how we use crypto, but how we interact with the rest of the internet.
You might want to keep an eye on what we ship next.
For crypto founders, the biggest lesson from @fomo and @Pumpfun ascendance is that the distribution model of the last 5 years for apps is moot.
Web3 is dead, wallet connect is dead, dApps are dead.
The new plan is vertically integrated mobile: hide the crypto mechanics entirely. Single balance across chains, integrated onramp (Apple Pay is king), no bridges, no seed phrases or private keys (sign in with Google or X).
For wallet apps themselves, this presents an existential crisis. The user demands simplicity & the feeling of safety. In the past, your wallet was a gateway to crypto. Now, I hold a deposit in each app I use and I don't yet care if they talk to each other.
As always, we go through bundling and unbundling cycles. If Phantom and Jupiter and Metamask were bundling, we are now seeing a great unbundling.
