Some students have plenty to say but struggle with the ways school usually asks them to say it.
In an art room, a student might spend an entire class working on a painting that expresses something they couldn't easily explain. In music, another might feel comfortable contributing to an ensemble long before they're ready to speak in front of a group.
These opportunities help us recognize strengths we might otherwise miss.
Arts education deserves a protected place in the school day. Students need different ways to communicate, participate, and discover what they're capable of.
