We have just wrapped up the 2026 @ColumbiaSoc Summer Academy on Large Language Models for Social Science, held from May 26 to June 5, 2026.
Over two weeks, participants engaged in keynote lectures, hands-on tutorials, TA-led workshops, group discussions, collaborative projects, and final team presentations on how LLMs and AI tools can advance social science research.
We were grateful to hear from an outstanding group of speakers, including Sandra Matz, Marcelo Mattar, Sharad Goel, Matt Connelly, Yamil R. Velez, Kathy Zhou, and Ying Jin. The program covered topics such as LLMs for social science, AI in education, respondent-centered research, robot control, automated hypothesis testing, coding tools, transformers, NLP, deep learning, AI agents, simulations, fine-tuning, RAG, and in-context learning.
Thank you to all of our speakers, program assistants, and participants for making this an inspiring and productive two weeks at Columbia.
