Yeah and it was one of the year's best. You should have promoted it more then.

The Devils shows the kind of deranged version of celebrity culture that can emerge in a walled-in medieval town stricken with plague.

"In the theater, you must project and say 'D'OH!'... but in film you must be more restrained and say 'd'oh.'"
the biggest lesson of ken russell’s the devils (1971) is that oliver reed with hair is a top 10 hottest man who ever lived but bald oliver reed looks like if homer simpson came to life

I don’t think that’s why they’re crying. They see she hasn’t learned anything and are watching her trying to do it all again with a new dirtbag partner.
YCSE SPOILERS: that scene where liz and billy are discussing the future of the company or some shit like that and her parents are just looking at her almost crying bc their daughters is going to prison and then it cuts to a close up of their hands together...

Reminder that an anonymous Theranos employee discussed the whole fraud (without naming the company) on a popular subreddit years before the WSJ broke the story

As the Girls leviathan rises from the deep, the old bloggers are attached like barnacles.
In 2017, Jia Tolentino lifted a series of restrictions on her life. She started putting half-and-half in her coffee instead of drinking it black. She started using emoji instead of forcing herself to communicate in words. And, finally, she watched Lena Dunham’s television show “Girls,” which had premièred on HBO 5 years earlier, in 2012. When “Girls” was on television, some critics lost the ability to distinguish it from real life. Many treated the show as though realism were its ultimate goal. “I don’t need to feel either disturbed by or painfully grateful for seeing women my age rendered in full-blooming imperfection,” Tolentino counters. “Nothing is a direct reflection, other than a mirror: not a friend, not a story, not an auteur, and definitely not a television show.” Read her reflection on “Girls," which Dunham recently announced would see a five-episode revival: newyorker.com/culture/jia-to…

Is it too much to hope that future generations find anime pfps cringe as hell?

Voters choose based on one thing: the Democrats' response to fleeting culture war issues. It's never the inverse for Republicans and no R-led policy issue could ever have greater impact.
The response to Shane Gillis's joke is why we lose elections, by the way.

Ambassador to the Backrooms
Ambassador Thornhill, welcome to the team. I’m proud to have such a dedicated leader join us as Ambassador-at-Large to Monitor and Combat Trafficking in Persons. Human trafficking is a grave human rights issue and a transnational crime exploiting men, women, and children for profit. We will continue to go after traffickers, protect survivors, and deliver justice for the American people.

DIGGER: haven’t seen it, but it’s very funny that hardcore cineastes virtually regarded Iñárritu as the antichrist until he made a movie that bombed spectacularly, now it’s “well, wait a minute…”

God, please somebody sort this out. I don’t know whether to get on my high horse about entitled celebrities or snobby Brooklyn retailers.
Cool, cool. Sure, it wasn’t for sale. That’s the narrative Art of Play is gonna go with 👍 so the whole conversation we had when I asked you if it was for sale whilst pointing to the price tag hanging on the wall with the title Singing Bird didn’t happen as you elevator eyed me saying in a condescending tone “yes, it’s for sale but it costs 15,000 dollars so if you’d like me to find something comparable for you I can.” That all never happened and now it’s not for sale. Okay, cool. So you’re not only rude, you’re also a liar. Got it ✅ And by the way, I obviously support small businesses because I was literally at a small business trying to purchase things. I love small businesses and know they are important and I always support them, but you don’t get a free pass to treat people less than in your store just because you are a small business. It’s not that hard to be kind. I never blast people but you my friend were an exception. Your store is really cool. Unfortunately, you aren’t.
