Boy I sure am glad master copies of today’s movies are stored on non-proprietary formats that will be playable in 50 years.

Ann Hornaday was a beautiful writer and an accessible one. She connected with readers every time she reviewed a movie. She loved a political documentary as much as a rom com. Ann's cancer was brutal and I'm glad she's no longer in pain. But I will miss her forever. I loved her.

HauntedWeen (1991) may have “so bad it’s good” written all over it, but despite the annoying cast, director Doug Robertson has a firm grasp on genre filmmaking—this is far more competent than its pay grade. Too bad he never made another movie.

Meet ST. JEANNE D'ARC (c. 1412-1431), a farmgirl from the Duchy of Bar who urged King Charles VII to fight for his crown, shamed & rallied French troops toward victories in the Hundred Years War, & was convicted of heresy by a Church tribunal & given to the English for execution.

I may have skipped Noir City this year but I did see Morrissey pay homage to Diana Dors in what was surprisingly one of my favorite shows this year

Warrrriors.... Come out to play! Time to take a then-and-now look at the locations in one of my favorite NYC films, The Warriors, which offers an incredible look at 1979 New York -- 🧵

There’s at least one glaring error in their synopsis, but I’d never thought about the fashions here. My wife and I think Minnie was dressed so outlandishly so she’d seem more benign than Roman, who’s intimidating from the start youtu.be/JnkdVu8p65k?is=m8BB…

2026 Book thread #1. Flannery O’Connor, Wise Blood. More disturbing if you’re Catholic—but also funnier.

65. Milton K. Ozaki, Inquest. Don’t let that awful cover deceive you, this is prime pulp, dry and efficiently hard-boiled, and—crucial for Westlake stans—meticulously structured.

66. Stacy Yu, Kitten. Thoroughly uncomfortable coming-of-age horror: what if you *don’t* find your voice?
