With dry timber stacking up throughout the Horn, there’s an increasingly urgent need for broad-based preventive diplomacy. @alanboswell @CrisisGroup outlines elements to achieve this, including top priority: preventing a return to full-scale war in Tigray.

Here, reflections from @EroComfort and I from the #Sudan conference in Berlin.
A marked contrast: While Sudanese meeting in Berlin took a courageous step forward, the international meeting showed that outside peace efforts are backsliding.

The title alone from @Mo_IbrahimFdn chairman should tell you what’s at stake.

🌍As Africa’s leaders meet in Addis Ababa for their annual summit, the challenges are almost too many to list. Swathes of the continent are engulfed in conflict. In 2025, tens of thousands died in wars in the east, west and centre. Millions were displaced.
First, the intro lays out why @CrisisGroup is broadening its focus beyond just AU (as in previous yrs). Worth a read about the changing nature of wars / peace in Africa.
Then, there are entries on #Sudan, #Ethiopia-#Eritrea, #Somalia, and #SouthSudan. (Also all worth a read!)
