Sun 12 April update of first vine budbreak in the UK. First, Chardonnay. As expected, the warm Easter w/e has progressed budburst, which has now been reported from nearly 50 vineyards.

Now for Pinot Noir. It had been tracking a few days behind Chardonnay, but the warm w/e has progressed budburst across southern England and into the Midlands.

Although global wine 🍇production in 2019 is expected to be significantly down ⬇️on 2018, this brings it roughly in line with the average this century. So no need for wine drinkers to worry, just yet 🥂
Wine production for 2019 in Italy (-15%), France (-15%) and Spain (-24%) significantly down compared to 2018 (via @OIV_int)

Pinotage is a cross between pinot Noir & cinsaut, not a hybrid. Would be interested to taste this Sonoma version.

Budbreak in Chablis is reported to be 8 days in advance of the 20-year average. Let's hope Jack Frost stays well away.
The Chamber of Agriculture reports that in the Yonne vineyards the woolly ‘pussy-willow’ stage is already widespread, many of the buds are showing a hint of green leaf, and some have already burst open. Budbreak 2019 is 8 days ahead of the 20-year average. (PR JL Berny).
