A UK Government / Wales Government alert is very rare. I think we all know we are in a very serious position with wildfires across the country. It’s hard enough now, let’s not add to it. A bit of personal responsibility applied by everyone will make a massive difference.

Many seats at the Senedd election will be decided by very fine margins. Postal votes will be key. Leave sending yours back until the last minute and you are running a risk about it getting in on time to be counted. Return postal votes as soon as you can - make your vote count🗳️

I wish I wasn’t posting this, I really do. This could be a Monmouthshire wide event or more focussed - we don’t know yet. For those of you in regularly hit areas, I would encourage you to do some preparation and follow the @NatResWales website for updates.

Things don’t look great on the weather front for a couple of days.MCC teams are stood up and meeting with partner agencies throughout tomorrow. I’ve heard several residents / businesses say recently that they don’t know where to look for flood warning information-detail attached

⚠️ this is not a good look for south wales over the next 36 hours. In Monmouthshire, our teams are stood up, we are prepared. If you are in a flood risk area, keep a regular check on @NatResWales website for alerts / warnings, prepare your property where you can, listen to advice

I picked up a stunning statistic today onthe flow rate of the River Monnow when it overtopped defences and flooded Monmouth. It usually has a flow rate of about 6 tonnes of water/second. It was running at 372 tonnes of water/second. That’s what 120mm of rain in short order can do

It’s been a bit of a day, with more difficult ones ahead for the residents and businesses of North Monmouthshire. I’m not a big fan of the River Monnow at the moment! Flooding is horrible. The community spirit in and around Abergavenny / Monmouth is so strong though.

Has your business been impacted by the floods in Monmouthshire? If you can get to Shire Hall for 3PM we can offer you some initial advice. Will do something similar in Abergavenny asap. PLEASE SHARE👇
