A new release candidate of Bitcoin Core, v32.0rc4, is available for testing.
This is a new major release, and follows v31.1.
Work-in-progress release notes are here: github.com/bitcoin-core/bitc…
Binaries are available here: bitcoincore.org/bin/bitcoin-…

32.0rc2 testing binaries are now available bitcoincore.org/bin/bitcoin-…
Includes the new getopenrpcinfo RPC (shoutout @willcl_ark). It returns a machine-readable OpenRPC spec of the entire RPC API, useful for generating client code and docs or diffing between releases.

If you're running Core Lightning (CLN) with the experimental dual-funding feature, you probably want to disable it for now:

Did you get an email from @Revolut mentioning that your data has been leaked?
If so my condolences and ... well the trove of data in this case seems quite very bad.
By default, fork.observer now shows the block pools are mining on. Thanks you @boerst for providing the stratum.work data!

Please do not direct your agent to burn down issues on someone else's open source project. Reviewing your "contribution" is actually more work for a maintainer than it is for them to direct their own agent to fix the same bug. So you are actually creating work, not helping.
TIL: this block by an Ocean miner was the first block in >6 years that didn't claim the full subsidy+fees reducing supply by 0.00342 BTC. Looks like the miner forgot about the 171x 2000sat in fees.

You can now minimize the number of nixpkgs you pull into the multiverse.
Best news is that it doesn't need a solver like z3, the algorithm is simple!
You can now access every version ever using the smallest possible nixpkgs set.

2 and 1/2 years, 5 PR takes, 1284 review comments, 1 protocol change and countless force-pushes and CI runs later, we made it to the finish line and the Silent Payments (BIP-352) module has finally landed in libsecp256k1! 🤫🎉
#1471 → #1519 → #1698 → #1765 🏁✅(→ #1792 🏷️⛔)
JUST IN: Silent Payments crypto functions are merged into libsecp256k1, bringing the private payment address scheme one step closer to shipping in bitcoin-core

I submitted a Bitcoin Core pull request implementing the BIP 54 soft fork (Consensus Cleanup), without mainnet activation.
The Consensus Cleanup was first proposed in 2019. Since work on it resumed in late 2023, it slowly matured into a robust proposal addressing several long-standing vulnerabilities and quirks in Bitcoin's consensus protocol.
Along the way it gathered support from a broad range of Bitcoin developers and technically minded Bitcoin enthusiasts, and this milestone marks a natural point for the broader community to start discussing a possible future activation. I strongly believe Bitcoin would benefit from adopting this soft fork as a straightforward measure to mitigate some long-term risks, and i hope Bitcoin users come to the same conclusion.
I also want to emphasize that while BIP 54 fixes real security vulnerabilities, i do not believe those to be immediate existential threats to the network. There is no rush, and we can afford time for everyone to carefully consider the proposal.

Thanks to all the work done by @fjahr and pinheadz, libevent is no-longer a dependency of Bitcoin Core,
This means a minimal bitcoind, now only has a single, header only, external dependency; which is Boost MultiIndex. Work is ongoing to replace this too.

Quick update. GitHub has decided our open-source project has been permanently banned with no explanation and no option to appeal, pointing to a ToS that clearly does not cover anything we’ve ever done.
I guess it’s time for Bitcoin projects to leave @github.

What's better than #nix #nixos #nixpkgs ?
How about any derivation from #guix inside of Nix !
This was an idea I have had for a while.
Who wants to make a MetaPkgs ?
fzakaria.com/2026/06/05/the-…
I never thought this would be possible, but:
I built a bitcoind binary with Nix that is bit-by-bit identical to the Bitcoin Core v31.0 Guix-built release binary for x86_64-pc-linux-gnu. Big win for reproducible builds across different toolchains.

Fully-static, reproducible, release binaries for Bitcoin Core, have been a long-time goal of mine, and we are getting are closer to making them a reality. I've produced test binaries from a PR of mine (#25573), and am looking for feedback, questions, and hopefully testing on various systems or obscure platforms.

Node count ≠ independent support.
Data from my Bitcoin crawler shows that of 3,312 “good” (listening + connectable) BIP110 nodes, 3,058 are concentrated within just 12 /16 IP ranges (~255 per range), suggesting possible single-operator control.
Excluding them leaves 254 (listening + connectable) BIP110 nodes.
For comparison, applying the same method flags 1 Bitcoin Core node and 0 Bitcoin Knots nodes.
