I have decided that I will no longer in future be posting on Twitter. So please follow along on Bluesky instead (same whitenigel username).
An eye-opening evening with @SayeedaWarsi on the ingrained prejudice towards Muslims. I learned a lot, caused me to think, and I was very impressed with the way she presented her argument.
Tonight is the third in our new series of lectures celebrating Peter Hennessy’s life and work.
We’re delighted to welcome @SayeedaWarsi to @QMUL for a lively discussion of Islam and Islamophobia in modern Britain. Thank you to everyone who has joined us!
I can't remember the last time I went to a West End play, but tonight I saw Dr Strangelove and thought it was exceptionally good.

I am pleased to announce that the website has been updated with all the remaining constituency groups. So, the current phase of the parlconst project is now complete until the next boundary reviews (due by 2033), subject to any (expected) corrections.

A new blogpost about a nostalgic trip to Romania to see how it had changed in the last 41 years. Good food, slow trains and some surprising discoveries.

Two photos of the Church on the Hill taken from the same spot 41 years apart. Talking to the man who currently looks after the church, I was delighted to learn that the organist I heard playing in 1983 is still alive, although retired from playing.

The Hungarian mathematician Jànos Bolyai, who, totally independently of the Russian Nikolai Lobachevsky, developed non-Euclidean hyperbolic geometry was born in Cluj (when it was known as Kolozsvár in the Hungarian empire). I'm pleased to see Cluj has a street named after Bolyai.

An interesting route to get to Leipzig, to see how the city had changed in the 39 years since I was last there.

One cannot come to Göttingen without paying one's respects at the grave of Carl Friedrich Gauß (1777 - 1855), the mathematician, physicist and astronomer, who did so much in many different areas.

The reason for this short trip to Gothenburg is to see the Gothenburg Opera's production of Carmen tonight. The cost of the opera ticket, flights and hotel adds up to less than a ticket to see Carmen at the Royal Opera House in London this summer.
I would have thought Tola would be tired enough after winning the marathon; but to win the climbing and modern pentathlon as well is quite amazing.

Have just finished listening to this brilliant series on the UK's pivotal elections since 1900.
I was sceptical about the last one - why is a historian talking about events less than a day old? But the clear analysis was far better than I have seen from any political journalist.
We close our mini-series with @redhistorian with the pivotal election of 2024 and ask what, if any, are the historic parallels for the 2024 result?

While waiting for the General Election results tonight, why not have a read about the Denmark leg of my recent trip to Denmark and Norway. Contains trains, Vikings and a bit of election fever.
