Most people overestimate what they can do alone.
And underestimate what they can do with a team.

Let's get something straight...
Remote work doesn't mean you have to work from home — it means you can work from anywhere.

You know those stories about the government paying a fortune for mugs and staplers?
All that stuff Elon Musk is working on at DOGE?
Most companies are doing the business equivalent of buying a pen for $100 by hiring North Americans to do remote roles.
The reality is that people's average IQs are the same everywhere in the world.
There are incredibly talented people EVERYWHERE.
And yet most companies prefer to pay 6-8x the cost to hire in North America/Europe.
Why?
I think it has to do with a form of racism that is bizarrely socially acceptable.
I've heard business leaders/management teams say things like:
"They just don't get design in India"
or
"The Chinese are fine at copying, but they can't come up with anything original"
I find it insane that this is considered an OK thing to think, let alone say out loud.
Imagine you heard your boss say this about an Asian co-worker:
"We can't assign that project to her, Chinese people aren't good at design"
They would be fired immediately.
At Tiny, we've started aggressively moving hiring for many roles into Latin America and the Philippines and we've been astounded by the level of talent we've been able to hire.
Where North American talent is often entitled and unreliable, we've found our global employees take their jobs far more seriously, work more intensely, and produce work that is equal or better.
For example, we just hired 8 new people.
If we hired in North America, it would have cost us $649,000 per year.
Instead, our all-in annual cost is $182,000.
Let's not forget health insurance, payroll taxes, paid time off, stock options, 401k and all the other stuff you have to add on in North America.
Benefits as a % of Salary
Payroll Taxes 🏦 7-12%
Health Insurance 🏥 10-20%
Retirement (401k, RRSP) 💼3-6%
Paid Time Off (PTO) 🌴5-10%
Perks (Stock, Training) 🎁3-10%
Total Cost: 25-40% of salary
That means, if you factor in benefits, we saved over $811,000 (or 77%).
To put that in perspective:
- You could hire 3-4x the number of employees with your original budget 🧑🤝🧑🧑🤝🧑🧑🤝🧑
- Spend an additional $811,000 on marketing (3:1 ROAS) and you'd do an additional $2.4 million of additional revenue 📈
- Invest it in the stock market for 20 years (8% return) and you'd have a $3.7 million dollar nest egg 💰
- Or you could be silly and go buy five brand new Porsche 911s 🏎️
In the past, we made hires like these using our remote job board, @weworkremotely, but found it exhausting to sift through hundreds of resumes.
So, to solve our own problem, the team at WeWorkRemotely launched a new recruiting service called Walter.
They do everything end-to-end, from sourcing, to screening, to interviews.
It's awesome, and they've already hired a ton of amazing people for Tiny as our workforce becomes increasingly global.
