Yes indeed…. Probably selling a bit late but alas…. The idea of being a landlord in Seattle is not appealing!

Hah, you got me to tweet! :-P I’m fixing to sell my house, so I was digging into the data. Seattle is falling faster from where it peaked, but maybe because it had a crazy-high peak? 🤞 (Hi from Orcas Island! Come say hi sometime!)

If you look at listings per 100 housing units, it… Doesn’t paint such a dramatic story at all. It’s higher than a few metros (NYC, SF), but lower than Austin, Miami, Phoenix, Tampa, Atlanta, Dallas, Denver, Houston, LA.

Apparently!? Hotel web sites tend to be pretty hit or miss for direct bookings, but maybe I need to suffer through that variability.

2/ …The reservation is ACTUALLY through Shenzhen Goodlucktrip International Travel Services, Ltd. (0 results on Google) and Booking.com can’t support the reservation. What the actual heck?!

1/ .@bookingcom Sick w/ a positive covid test on the road. The hotel that I booked with the Booking.com app said they’d happily approve a refund but I needed to request it via Booking.com. Booking.com says…

Green shoots I see in America right now: 1. Industrial policy and the factory boom 2. The YIMBY movement 3. The rise in young people's wealth 4. A whole bunch of new inventions 5. The re-fragmentation of the internet noahpinion.blog/p/the-new-19…

Or The Amazon Echo leaders talking about Siri / Apple Homepod. Cell phones were ubiquitous and daily-use products— and Apple made them great. Not the case (yet) with VR.

That’s… MMF? (Marketing Market Fit) You can make a landing page that looks cool, promises all sorts of compelling features that spark curiosity, seem valuable, paper over costs and complexities for the user, emphasizes the positive emotions around the idea, etc. That’s not PMF.

I often think about @bungarsargon’s brilliant point that every time you get angry on the internet, someone is making money as a result. Reminding myself of that fact really helps me keep my equanimity.

"The people calling for gun control today wouldn’t shed a tear if every child on earth was shot. Just remember that. They want to to hurt you." An absurd exaggeration like this (direct quote from a real tweet) is the ticket to viral spread. But only because people want to either a) believe it, or b) shame the poster to even more culture war power they can abuse. Both these trigger-happy habits hurt. So next time you're tempted to spread or shame, stop for a second. See the lie for what it is. And reject it. Your attention — positive or negative — is your power here. Don't give it where it's not deserved. ❤️

Whenever I get to know someone who seems perfect, I end up disappointed. Whenever I get to know someone who I think is the worst of the worst, I'm pleasantly surprised. Angels and demons aren't real.

Good rule of thumb. But: how many businesses were bailed out by the government(s) during the the pandemic? After natural disasters? Is it possible that *some* events like this are more like hurricanes than just bad management?

Idealism isn't thinking the world is different than it is. It's knowing how you want the world to be, orienting your behavior in that direction, and trying to inspire others to do the same. Idealism isn't naïveté, it's ambition—a refusal to concede the future to the present.
