Replying to @Noahpinion
People are realizing that AIs are nowhere near human intelligence and learning abilities. Yet they have become very useful by compensating for their lack of common sense, lack of understanding of reality, and limited reasoning and planning abilities, by the accumulation of enormous amounts of declarative knowledge.

vibecoder asks claude code to build a chat app, gets a working prototype in 20 minutes, immediately tweets "just killed slack and discord"… brother you don't even know what a distributed system is. you don't know what database replication means. you have no idea how websocket connections behave at scale or what happens when 50k people are online at once and someone's message needs to show up in 200ms across 3 continents slack has engineers making $300k+ who have spent a decade solving problems you don't even know exist yet. race conditions, eventual consistency, message ordering, presence systems, file storage at scale, search indexing across billions of messages your app works on localhost with 2 connections. that's not the same thing as "killing slack" that's a college homework assignment the prototype is maybe 0.5% of what makes these products actually work in production. the remaining 99.5% is infrastructure, reliability, edge cases, and years of iteration on problems that only surface when real humans use your thing at scale and the worst part is the confidence. "yeah its not perfect but ai one-shotted it, just need to adjust a few things and deploy" - the few things you need to adjust IS the entire product. thats like pouring a foundation and saying you basically built a skyscraper, just need to adjust a few things ai is genuinely incredible for building tools and prototypes. i use it every day. but there's this weird thing happening where people who have never shipped anything to real users at scale now think the hard part of software is writing the first 200 lines of code it never was bro

I used to work in A2A payments, which is a common payment solution commonly used for casino payments, mostly because people want direct transfers and they want to see the money in their account the same second they withdraw it. I did see raw logs of people's addictions and the amounts of money they had sent to these casinos, and it was awful. In Europe we have a thing called PSD2, which is a directive that forces banks to open APIs to initiate payments (PIS) but also to see transactions of people (AIS), which we who are payment providers are forced to know because we are the ones who should prevent the user from initiating a new payment using know your customer info (KYC). Some transferred the amount of money of the cost of a house in one evening and then lost it all. It was awful to see and it felt like shit. Casinos destroy people's lives.

🚀 Kyo 1.0-RC1 - A New Era of Simplicity and Stability! ✨ Forget nested monads, forget tagless final, forget mtl, forget uber monads. It's time for a new dawn! After 3 years of rapid iteration, Kyo is finally committing to API stability, making it production-ready 🎯 The library represents a significant evolution step in Scala, providing an unprecedented level of composability with a major focus on usability and performance. This isn't "just" another effect system, it is a new paradigm altogether! 🔥 Kyo is the most complete algebraic effect implementation in any language and fills common gaps that similar solutions miss like fully type-safe effect tracking and parallelism support with effects. The RC cycle might be quick or it might take a long time. Want to know what could help shorten it? Your feedback! 📝 Reporting issues, filing feature requests, or just providing general feedback can greatly reduce the RC cycle so we can get to the 1.0 🙏 Kyo 1.0 here we goooo 🚀🚀🚀🚀🚀

Big shout-out to @soundtrack_io (and @warnsberg!) for sponsoring Caliban maintainers on GitHub Sponsors! Companies benefit tremendously from OSS, but few give back financially. Huge thanks for supporting open-source sustainability! 🎉

Thanks @antirez. I'm going to share this whenever anyone scoffs at me and says "`cat` performance doesn't matter". This stuff matters, it has real productivity implications. I smiled at this because we worked hard on this and I'm glad someone I respect so much noticed. For what it's worth I gave a lightning talk on some parts of how we do this: youtu.be/cPaGkEesw20?t=3016 (timestamp link) Usually the "scoffers" will be snarky and say: you should pipe it to a file or pager. Sometimes yes, but if you don't have to... why? Also, I don't know about you but I've routinely accidentally dumped a ton of text to my terminal unintentionally. With Ghostty it's just a total non-issue. Love this.

Excited to announce we're open sourcing Stitch, a Scala library that elegantly and efficiently composes RPC calls. This library was developed over the last nine years and is the cornerstone of how we build the scalable microservices that powers X github.com/twitter/stitch

The OCaml ecosystem is making all the right moves, innovations, and investments to make it the right choice for *checks notes* everything. Is it there yet? No. Will it get there? I think so. Why do I think that? The people putting in the work are 🐐's

I’m building something kinda.. weird? And, after a ~year of being in the code mines by myself, I could use an extra pair of hands. If you like typescript, state machines, sandboxes, and UI (right???) -- luddep@gmail.com

Yeah, this is horrible. Again, what problem are we solving here? We need some code of ethics amongst people working on tech because this is bleak, terrible stuff.
where we are with ai today: it now takes 5 minutes and just a single target photo for you to call into a zoom meeting deep faked as anybody you want, whether elon musk or donald trump, in real time:

I hear you wanted type safe SQL in Gleam, so I’m really happy to share my latest package Squirrel 🐿️ You can write your SQL queries in plain old .sql files and Squirrel will take care of the rest! No hand-writing decoders, no compromises on type safety and it just works™️
