We're hiring post-bacc fellows at @fp_launchpad again.
If you’re taking my NPTEL course, Functional Programming with OCaml, I’d appreciate your feedback through a short survey. Let us know what worked well and what we can improve. The form link will be in the course announcements. Thank you!
Have written 1M+ lines of Lean since the start of the year.
I guess at this point, this metric is as good as counting the number of assembly instructions emitted by my compiler. @ShriramKMurthi does call LLMs non-deterministic compilers.

That the labs haven't done this, even though it would obviously be incredibly valuable for them, but continue to steamroll math, TCS, programming, cyber security, etc has to be a bearish sign for progress outside these areas.
Ok, finished going through the OAI math list. It is bonkers and should be front page news around the world if folks understood what this meant. But if I am running strategy at a lab, #1 priority is "do this for medicine, oncology, battery efficiency, etc as fast as possible".

After a terrific IndiaFOSS last week, we're staying on in Bengaluru for IICT '26 at IISc.
Several of us are here, and our booth has posters, goodies and team members to answer your questions. Come say hi!

There was a time where colleagues suggested that only code has value. I am glad, we are back at a point where explaining things is valuable again.
Ever heard of dynamic meta-compilation?
Truffle uses partial evaluation to turn interpreters into optimized machine code without requiring you to write a compiler.
We’ve added docs explaining how it works. Readable by humans, too: github.com/oracle/graal/blob…

1. This is wonderful. (Would have loved to have this when I read parts of Lectures.)
2. Hopefully it's correct. For basic physics I suspect it will be.
3. This will not lead to "rapid acquisition of knowledge", because nothing does, and we've been animating physics for decades.

I wrote about stack allocation and locality in OxCaml, a superset of OCaml for performance engineering. Give it a read! anirudhsudhir.com/posts/oxca…

In the Van inscription, for example, Xerxes praises Ahuramazda, "who created this earth, who created yonder sky, who created man." Here the Old Persian "hya imām būmim adā" (who created this earth) corresponds to Sanskrit "ya imām bhūmim adhāt."

Does some university want to host me (George) and offer a winter semester Compilers for Machine Learning course?
12+ weeks, hands on, build a compiler. Syllabus in next tweet. Needs a student body capable of doing this work and leadership capable of recognizing how SOTA this is.

I've published detailed notes and an annotated transcript to accompany the video of the keynote I gave at @WeAreDevs World Congress North America in San Jose on Friday - here's my rundown of everything that's happened with LLMs and agents in 2026 so far simonwillison.net/2026/Sep/2…

One fun bit about my conversation with Aaron Bauer was talking about his engineering work on editors: de-weirdifying 25 years of emacs customizations, wrestling with problems that show up at larger scales, navigating the messy notebook ecosystem, etc.
