End-to-end-open biomedical AI has enormous potential for GOOD on hardware you own and control!โค๏ธ
For benefit of ALL -- should build on Free and Open Source Software and Free Knowledge ideals and make it easy to implement #AIBillOfRights for preclinical AI and #PrecisionHealth.
This is correct: "The only solution to SI-powered cyberattacks is SI-powered cyber defense."
Free and end-to-end-open AI must win. Or we will all lose.
This illustrates the point Iโve been making about the limits of centralized approaches to SI safety in cyber.
OpenCode (and earlier Hugging Face) hit the same wall mid-attack: frontier models refused to analyze the very exploits needed for defense because the payloads tripped safety filters. The guardrails backfired.
Meanwhile, the attackers found a way around restrictions to access advanced capabilities. This is not surprising. Chinese models are only about 6โ9 months behind the American frontier in cyber. Obviously the U.S. has no jurisdiction over them.
The only durable response is decentralized: make powerful models available so defenders can build and run their own cyber defenses. The only solution to SI-powered cyberattacks is SI-powered cyber defense.
Welcome our gaming renaissance! โฅ๏ธ
Although, in the limit, entertainment and medicine can consume unlimited resources.
Meanwhile, must reimagine free world institutions with strong safety nets: defense, universal clean water, air, good food, education, high quality healthcare.

Investing in permissionless access to AMD compute is a clear-cut good move for @LisaSu and @AnushElangovan!
Would love to see @AMD and @HotAisle put a massive hole in that CUDA moat.
You know, $AMD really should be dumping money into us, so we can get MI355x deployed. The rule that AMD Ventures doesn't lead a round, is holding your company back more than you know. Rules are meant to be broken.
Even to this day, developers have the belief that your software isn't capable. Securely getting compute into the hands of developers is more important than ever, and that's exactly what we are the absolute industry best at.
I've lost count how many times I've done this over the past 3 years. Help us, help you!

There is something very human about betting against the existence of trap door one-way functions (that are the basis of public key cryptography.)
Either you already doubted they exist or you didn't. If you believe they exist, AI will find new ones even as it breaks old ones.
After valiant stone walling Grok admits Musk could have faced ICE detention given his unlawful presence in the 90s. ๐โฅ๏ธ๐บ๐ธ Guess Musk was lucky we had better immigration policy under Clinton and significantly less sophisticated surveillance tech.
Yes, that is correct. Applying today's rules to the 1990s facts in the email, a non-citizen without lawful status could have faced ICE detention if identified. Musk later secured work visas and citizenship by 2002, closing the matter. Enforcement focuses on current unlawful presence by non-citizens.
Angel Zhao was less lucky. And, undoubtedly, there are many similarly unlucky people under MAGA immigration policy. And many people will, ultimately, regret their support for ICE and these policies. Cf.

๐ฅ I still remember way, way back in high school chemistry class, learning about Single Replacement Reactions - where a more reactive element undergoes oxidation (loses electrons) and replaces a less reactive ion in a compound.
Something like that...
I liken it to modern global politics where Mark Carney has clearly oxidized the blundering Trump, and replaced him as the preferred leader of the free world. ๐

I was dreaming of Israeli and Palestinian co-existence on Oct 3 in Judea's comments. Still hope Israelis and Palestinians can find a way to live side by side in peace and freedom. ๐โฅ๏ธ๐ต๐ธ๐ฎ๐ฑ
Dreaming on hold?
Why do Western analysts go wild in ecstasy each time another poll reads "Palestinians Want Two-State Solution"? Like this one:
foreignaffairs.com/palestiniโฆ
Several reasons. First, this finding gets Palestinians off the hook and places the burden of the next action squarely on Israel, which is perceived to be the more powerful side of the two and can be pressured in the international arena. Second, Israelis are presumed to act rationallyโunlike Hamasโand a two-state solution has been Zionism's ultimate, natural aspiration since its foundational days.
This ecstasy, however, is fundamentally misguided. True, Israelis are pragmatic and rational, but above all, they are realists. They suspect, for example, that by a "Palestinian State," Palestinians mean a staging ground from which to continue the struggle to undo Israel, equipped with a greater voice in the international arena and greater control over its skies and eastern border. Israeli suspicion is not without grounds, for these polls systematically bypass the elephant in the living room: The right of return. Nowhere were respondents asked (1) whether they would be willing to rescind their refugee status, or (2) whether they would be willing to see their childrens' textbooks teach that Jews are not European invaders but equally indigenous to the land. Israelis view these latter two as critical litmus tests of Palestinian intentions and are awaiting a public poll that dares to address these issues squarely. @EinatWilf @dansenor @YKleinHalevi @AkaLazarus @DavidSuissaJJ
For those of us still dreaming *two peoples equally indigenous* still a pretty good basis for peace. ๐โฅ๏ธ๐ฎ๐ฑ๐ต๐ธ
Replying to @wait_sasha @yudapearl
This requires great personal risk -- and, frankly, risk of outright murder -- for moderates so easy for me to say from so far away. โฅ๏ธ๐
And, of course, requires cooperation from neighboring arab states that may have to cede space for a functional Palestinian state.
Possible?
I will not be surprised if Canada's NDP tries for similar. A shame since Bob Rae's NDP was largely reasonable and gave Canada legitimate political alternatives. ๐โฅ๏ธ๐จ๐ฆ
Itโs just so wonderful to see the British Greens put their cards on the table like this. It is the coming together of two USSR operations to cause division and weakness in the West. Much of the Green movement was seeded and funded by the USSR to try to suppress Western economic growth and make the West dependent on foreign oil and gas.
That is why, for example, to this day, โGreenโ politicians across the West counterintuitively oppose nuclear energy, even though it is the only real way to decarbonise Europe. They aren't actually 'Green', they are simply Third Worldist activist, who will use whatever useful levers they find to weaken the West.
But the USSR also seeded the โFree Palestineโ movement, attempting to invent a national identity out of whole cloth, which it hoped to use against Israel, a Western ally.
All of this has come back with a vengeance since the new Russian regime revived many of these games in recent decades. But soon that regime will fall, and this will all fall apart.
