Our #TreeofLife endeavours rest on the incredible #phylogenomic wealth of the world’s natural history collections. We owe a huge debt to those #herbarium collectors and curators whose treasures we now decipher genetically in the lab. @KewScience #PAFTOL

Small, but mighty! Local & small #herbaria are very important sources for plant information. Thanks @SandyKnapp for this very informative presentation! #SOTWPF @UniHohenheim – at Stuttgart, Germany

First discovered as fruits in the tombs of ancient Egypt, the argun palm (Medemia argun) is accurately listed on @IUCNRedList at last. This rare and vulnerable Nubian desert palm is severely threatened by gold mining and climate change. @KewScience

Why are angiosperms so successful, in terms of species and ecologies? I reviewed trait-dependent diversification and transition rates, showing that 'trait flexibility' could be important @NewPhyt : nph.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/…, and a bit more background onsteinison.wordpress.com/
Very grateful to Queen Sirikit Botanic Garden for letting us use their facilities and showing me their amazing living #palm collection (here: Kerriodoxa elegans, a southern Thailand endemic). Already arranged to come back next year and spend more time. #floraofthailand @EcoinfAU
Tremendously enjoyable day in the dry dipterocarp forest of Ob Khan NP in N Thailand, together with their super knowledgeable and helpful rangers. Not many palms (just Phoenix loureiroi), but plenty other #plants to collect for the #herbarium, and lots of hills to climb...
Collecting spiny #rattan #palms for the #herbarium is fun - but watching somebody else do it is even better. Showing my colleagues in Thailand how this is done - no pain, no gain (why did I forget to bring my gloves??) #floraofthailand @EcoinfAU
Another opportunity to find out why there is so much #biodiversity in tropical #rainforest - this time at #postdoc level. If this is your thing, please apply to join the #TropiToL team @EcoinfAU. Read more here: international.au.dk/about/pr… Deadline 17 May
