Went down the rabbit hole trying to figure out WTF TLA+ is and discovered Leslie Lamport has a hilarious side 😅BTW the intro is a hidden gem: lamport.azurewebsites.net/vi…
TLA+ is also (one of the) method that we at Intent Lab used to build mission critical infra software like Agent FS. Key is to make it verifiable and scalable - going through millions of states and also ensure the TLA+ to Rust/C conversion doesn’t weaken the end to end correctness. intentlab.ai/blog/turn-your-…

Good afternoon from Vienna People of Pi ☀️ Some slightly different Sunday meditations today in which @mitsuhiko talks about some shared frustrations with agentic software engineering. Remember that you're not alone in finding it harder than it looks!

Been using Qwen-3.8-Flash-Next locally all day after Astra burned my 5h limit in a blip feels like an elementary kid solving the classic chicken-rabbit cage problem (鸡兔同笼 )using pure algebra when equations are not allowed - relentlessly cranking away but delivered 😅

Qwen3.8-Flash-Next did real work on 64 GB M2 Ultra: - 66 min debugging w me in Pi, 106 tool calls - 35.5 tok/s generation (MTP), 402 tok/s prefill - Compacted near 115K and finished the job Detailed story b1tank.github.io/writing/my-…
This is the way! Give it a try! Q2 but still strong!

Best quote of the year. AI lets us see gold mines everywhere; it’s never yours until you execute with agency.
I can’t stress enough how little an idea matters compared to the agency of the people executing the idea. I have had the privilege of knowing and sometimes even working with some of the most successful people (by various metrics). The difference between mediocre and excellent work and outcomes is predominantly one of agency. In practice this means: they dont wait for things to happen to them they go out and make things happen for them. They don’t wait for someone else to do something, for someone to teach them, for someone to give them the path, etc. They just go out and find a way to do it. I think the single biggest superpower these people have is the realization/belief that the world around them is completely mutable. Most everything that happens is because a person made it happen. I used to tell people to look around the room you’re sitting in. Look at everything. Every noun. It almost all exists because a person willed it into existence. Nothing is stopping you from doing the same. I see people online all the time dismissing someone else’s success because “I had that idea first” or whatever. I mean… yeah? If so then the difference is… you. So a bit of a self own whenever I hear that. Number one tip: act with agency.

Linux adoption among programmers is about to go parabolic. Any missing app can be recreated easily. The open-source advantage with agents is unstoppable. Nobody is going to be waiting for Apple to sign their shit. Just keep a Mac Mini as a remote builder for iOS work. Done.

This summarizes it well - “Reviewing some Javascript stuff of some web site for a customer? Hell, no, don't lose time with that shit.” Instead of questioning why @antirez said no more reading code, we young programmers should write some toyforth in C youtu.be/vYODKK8TQGE?si=RcTD…

These insights wouldn’t exist without sustained team work on our end-to-end eval system - infra, harness, benchmark (VSC-Bench), data, reporting, and monitoring - driving continuous quality improvements for users. code.visualstudio.com/blogs/…
📊 Sometimes the smallest evals reveal the biggest insights. See what 50,000 runs of a 5-line task taught the @code team about model efficiency, tool use, and AI behavior. 📖 Read the full post: aka.ms/vscode/blog/evals

You might believe you should spend less time thinking about code because of AI. I strongly disagree! We’re watching this play out live where tons of AI generated code becomes a liability. At the end of the day, an engineer needs to be responsible / on call for code that gets shipped to production. If you don’t understand the system you’re trying to debug, you’re probably going to have a bad time. Yes, AI can help with all of this, if you set up the proper systems. You can have agents triage prod logs, look at errors, etc. You can speed up parts of the investigation, but an engineer needs to make the call. There might be serious customer or financial implications from that change. I expect the trend continue for trimming dependencies, vendoring code so you can modify it directly, preferring simpler systems with fewer abstractions, and spending waaaay more time thinking about system design and code maintenance. I’ve said this before, but it’s a great time to get familiar with CS fundamentals and some of the history behind what great software looks like. Many parts will be different in the coming years as AI progresses, but also a lot more than people realize will stay the same.
