Intubated a ?COVID pt today with an anticipated difficult airway + HD instability. Thoughts I've reflected on after the fact: Before - role ID, plan for all contingencies (meds, rescue, resus), imagery of sequences, most experienced intubator, have filters/tubes/PPE ready

Excited to join the next cohort of @rotmanschool GEMBA-HLS candidates, and to learn more about global healthcare delivery! Grateful to mentors old and new, so many of whom are not on Twitter, who continue to shape this journey.

Does a #preop #medicine consult lead to better outcomes? Probably not in most cases New in @JAMAInternalMed from @OttawaHospital @OttAnesthesia @aims_periop @OttawaIM @ICESOntario bit.ly/3LZ3Vf4

It was a honour to host local physicians for a round table discussion on health care. Input from our front line health care physicians is the first step to improving our health care system. #onhealth

Hey @OslerHealth, since when do we charge patients a *subscription fee* for one time access to their medical images that surgeons require to make decisions? This seems...unreasonable?

Excellent review of minimally invasive mitral valve repair by @PirozeD - very helpful to "see what the surgeon sees" when considering complex repairs! #TPES2022 @APIL_TGH @CAS_CVT @UofTanesthesia

Hmmm 🤔 Lots of blame and shame about who screwed up health care. We all played a part - and all parts of the system contributed to getting to where we’re at.

In this trial of IV vitamin C in adult patients with sepsis, those who received a vitamin C infusion had a higher risk of death or persistent organ dysfunction at 28 days than those who received placebo. #CCR22 nej.md/3HpUNvW

Great example of why we need good evidence before making broad sweeping practice change!
New from @neumanmd @PennMedicine: A @PCORI funded study found that patients who got spinal anesthesia during hip fracture surgery were 33% more likely than general anesthesia patients to still be taking Rx pain drugs 60 days post-surgery. ow.ly/kKYi50Jx5X6

Quoted for truth. I learn from the questions I'm asked. It shows me what I need to improve on the iteration, or helps me realize something isn't working.
Replying to @ottawaheartrob
Questions are important to me They tell me which part of the session I have done poorly By "running the list" (attendees virtually) or walking from desk to desk in class, learners know I am not picking on any one person. Everyone will be put on the spot to put ME on the spot

Gamechanger. @ottawaheartrob (2015): "Ask me a question." One of the best ways to make "teaching" a guided conversation.
During lectures, I switched from asking "does anyone have a question before I move on?" to telling "someone ask me a question before I move on" and it is so simple but SUCH a game changer. #AcademicTwitter
