The houses were built by NGOs. What then is the Govt doing if so much of its work is being provided by non-profits?
With no usable toilets in their homes & rainwater flooding the ground around them, Irulars in Nemmeli face a dire situation. With nowhere to relieve themselves, they say they cut their food intake by half to avoid having to use the toilet, during heavy downpour. @xpresstn

Read this important article on #Pallikaranai marshland proposed Zone of Influence. There are 65 satellite wetlands that drain into Pallikaranai marsh and keep its functionality intact. Now, the revised ZoI had shown zero regard to them and their connecting water channels. The whole exercise is nothing but a sham. The map below list and shows how the 65 satellite wetlands forms part of Pallikaranai watershed, which is critical for Chennai’s groundwater recharge and flood management. Democracy is light-hearted, hopeful and irreverent. Authoritarianism, on the other hand, squelches joy and hope. It can last only when people stop hoping for better times. And so, the struggle is not just against forgetting, it is also against hopelessness.
What an adorable shot! This beautifully captures the spirit of yesterday’s protest. People from different political parties with different ideologies and convictions coming together for a cause greater than their individual differences. The INDIA bloc did good! ♥️

'Go to court' is the new 'Go to Pakistan'. Rather revealing.

I don't think it is fully understood what young people are putting on the line in these protests, their courage. They have no rank, money, access, privilege or social media following. Esp. young women who also face the risk of physical harassment. An extraordinary generation.
This HT photo from Mumbai is very disturbing.

Pressure cooker is reaching rage-danger limits on all sides 😞 Please universe, don't let it get worse.

Reddit has also joined @Meta, @X, and @YouTube in censoring people. A post on @Reddit about the Delhi Police’s notification to @OfficialDMRC regarding the closure of 57 metro stations has been "geoblocked in India due to General legal request." SFLC.in’s Free Speech Tracker is monitoring and documenting these cases of censorship. If you or someone you know is facing content blocking or account restrictions, write to us at [email protected] and help us document more such instances. Every voice matters! Ramit Verma, behind @thepeeinghuman, picked up near CP inner circle. @Basantrajsonu and @ImAvdheshkumar were there when this happened — they say groups of right-wing men roaming the area, are singling out students & protesters affiliated with Left unions. Ramit was similarly targeted — you can hear them say that he was trying to burn the shops (total nonsense) — and the security personnel just take Ramit away. So protestors in twos and threes are being detained but full freedom for rw men targeting people. It is not clear which organisations these men belong to.

Methinks the police doth protest too much about permissions for peaceful assemblies. "If such laws were illegitimate and labelled as black laws under colonial rule, are not the laws and structures which adhere to that same colonial logic equally illegitimate today?”

Doesn’t help democracy at all. What would have helped is - “those gathering peacefully shall not be detained” . Allowing police to decide legality has been the issue.
News Alert! Protests in Delhi: Supreme Court directs those gathering peacefully shall not be illegally detained.

Yesterday, when thousands were detained across Delhi during the protests against SIR & CEC Gyanesh Kumar, the police DENIED people access to legal counsel. Police was not giving information about the detainees and was not allowing lawyers to interact with them. All this is documented & publicly available - courts need to take suo motu cognisance of these ILLEGAL actions of the police.

Read the Saket CJM's order dismissing Ratna Singh's (@whattalawyer) plea against her illegal detention today. How terrible is this order: 1. Not one line on the only question that mattered, viz. "By what legal authority was she being detained?" 2. Eight counsel present for the applicant, the applicant on video during the hearing, yet no time given to file an affidavit. Dismissed instead. 3. A "complaint on oath" treated as if it needed an affidavit, when she could have been examined on oath over video by the Magistrate. 4. Calls her location unclear, while recording her home address and that she was right outside it. 5. Faults her for not naming the officers, when her complaint was that they refused to show any authority. 6. Video of the confinement was available on the court's own system. Unwatched. Decided "without delving into the merits." 7. Cites a Supreme Court judgment that upheld an FIR direction, to refuse one. Liberty lost on paperwork. Courts really need to grow a spine now.

Wow! What coordination! Delhi Police personal signals the goon to stop the camera person from recording. He immediately threatens the cameraman from recording.
One of the goon seen beating the kid is Ravindra Govinda. Member of Hindu Raksha Dal. He was detained in the morning. Look how Police is handling the goons.

Earlier if a building needed an elevator, the SIPDA scheme would happily provide the same for benefit of disabled. Nirbhaya Fund is default piggy bank if CCTVs / drones are required. But worst is piggybacking facial recognition on finding missing children -that's not been done.

Update- DCP Garg from West Zone is entitled and how. He arrogantly refused to allow me to meet @TusharG and threatened us, when confronted and when shown the law. We merely invoked the provisions of the law. I finally met Tusharji and got his signature on the Vakalatnama for further legal recourse. This is illegal. No notice has been served. #UndeclaredEmergency #Fail
