We’ve had many high school students in the lab for the summer and I’ve been proud of every single one… believe me they are fully capable (far more than I was at that age) and while the parents are supportive it’s to the students’ credit.
A rant. Every summer, I accept one HS student researcher (paid). W/o fail, (many) people make comments about how the student must be a waste of my time. When I point out specific things that the student accomplished, they say "their parents probably did it". 1/3

Words can’t describe the range of emotions I have today. I’m so glad we get to celebrate Bob Mecham’s career today. He defines the word: mentor. He is a true leader and a kind human being all around!

Had a very joyful mentor moment last Friday introducing my current @UPMCHillmanCC summer mentee to my 2017 Hillman mentee (and future @PittVbl PhD student), before the latter goes to Germany for a year as a Fullbright Scholar! Thank you Priyasha and Kat! #Mentorship #ProudPI

Replying to @PittVbl
@PittVbl had 10% of all of Pitt’s NSF #GRFP awardees this year. I’ll take that. Great job Brittany Rodriguez and and Amanda Pellegrino! And this doesn’t even count incoming student Kat Kerr. #Blessed to have such a strong team.

It feels like yesterday since I started graduate school, and now I'm a Ph.D candidate. Grateful for all the mentorship I've received thus far and looking forward to making more progress toward my Ph.D!
