Could the Nigerian media be sabotaging Nigerian democracy?
1. I am beginning to fear that one of the greatest threats to Nigerian democracy may not be the military, the politicians, or even the ballot thieves, but the very journalists entrusted with protecting the public from them.
2. A democracy does not die only when soldiers seize power.
3. Sometimes, it dies quietly, while journalists sit politely and watch politicians dismantle its foundations.
4. Consider the curious spectacle called Nyesom Wike's media chat.
5. Here is a politician who assembles some of Nigeria's supposedly finest journalists, seats himself at an elevated table, almost like a monarch receiving his subjects, while the journalists arrange themselves below him, two or three on either side.
6. And then the performance begins.
7. Wike speaks. They listen.
8. Wike boasts. They nod.
9. Wike makes extraordinary political declarations. They look on like children looking at their parents.
10. He talks about what he has done, what he intends to do, and what nobody can stop him from doing.
11. Yet the people whose profession demands interrogation appear strangely reluctant to interrupt, challenge, demand evidence, or insist on accountability.
12. At what point did journalism become an exercise in watching a politician speak?
13. In serious democracies, whether on the BBC, CNN, Al Jazeera or elsewhere, the journalist is not expected to be intimidated by the office of the person being interviewed.
14. The interviewer represents the public's right to know.
15. But in these Nigerian media spectacles, one wonders whether the journalists have forgotten whom they represent.
16. The politician occupies the throne.
17. The journalists occupy the gallery.
18. And the Nigerian people, whose interests ought to dominate the conversation, become spectators of a carefully arranged political performance.
19. There are also troubling questions about money.
20. Claims from @atiku 's camp has asked how Wike sponsors his media chats. Others believes these journalists are receiving enormous payments for participating in political media engagements.
21. Such allegations require evidence, not mere repetition.
22. But surely Nigerians deserve to know who finances these programmes, what the broadcasters receive, whether individual journalists are compensated, and whether public resources are involved.
23. A journalist who exchanges independence for political favour has not merely sold out his profession, he has mortgaged the public's right to truth.
24. And here lies another contradiction.
25. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the country's highest official, has offered relatively few opportunities for sustained, unscripted questioning by the Nigerian press.
26. Yet Nyesom Wike, who is not the president, enjoys repeated national broadcasting opportunities in which his political declarations often appear to dominate the proceedings.
27. Are these genuine interviews, or are we witnessing the gradual conversion of journalism into political advertising, a psychological operation by the Nigerian journalist?
28. Some Nigerians suspect that the purpose of these appearances is to condition the electorate into believing that the APC's victory in 2027 is inevitable, regardless of public dissatisfaction.
29. Whether that suspicion is correct or not, journalists should be interrogating such narratives, not simply providing the microphones through which they are amplified.
30. The journalist's duty is not to make power comfortable.
31. It is to make power accountable.
32. When Wike makes a questionable claim, ask for evidence.
33. When he boasts about influencing elections, ask whether his conduct respects democratic principles.
34.When he threatens journalists or political opponents, ask what gives him such authority.
35. When he refuses to answer, insist on the question
36. That is journalism
37. Not the carefully folded hands, the nervous smiles

Ask the Governor of Zamfara (Dauda Lawal), when he was in PDP, I chased him away. He had money, plus other money I hear he is keeping for somebody. Why did he run away from PDP? He couldn't withstand the firework.

Nyesom Wike will call for media chat, he will not chat about Abuja and the progress of the administration in delivering democracy to the people of Abuja..
He will come online bragging.

When Hilda Baci stood for days to put Nigeria on the world map, the entire South stood still, cheered her on, and carried her to victory on the wings of massive support.
Today, our very own brother from the North, Abdulkadir Basari, is at MAAUN Kano, pushing through a grueling 120-hour non-stop sewing marathon to break a Guinness World Record—not just for fame, but to sew uniforms for less-privileged kids!
Why is Arewa so silent? We must learn to celebrate and lift our own champions. Let’s make some noise for him! 🧵

Judaism. Talmud (Niddah 45a, Ketubot 11b) holds that intercourse with a girl under 3 has no legal effect on virginity, as the hymen was believed to regenerate like a finger in the eye. This is a technical ruling on status for betrothal or ketubah, not permission for the act, which is forbidden.

According to a 2024 news report, Nigerian President Bola Tinubu (@officialABAT) allocated $500 million in World Bank financing for road infrastructure. Two years later, watch the video below and judge the condition of Nigeria’s roads for yourself. Where did the $500 million go?
This is why we are engaging with @USTreasury and @WorldBankGroup to urge the postponement of an additional $1.5 billion in financing reportedly sought by President Tinubu until after Nigeria’s presidential election.
Given the Tinubu government's history of public-sector corruption, disbursing another $1.5 billion just three months before an election would be a serious failure of financial oversight. #StopTheSteal

“Loans risk being used for purposes other than intended.” — U.S. Government Accountability Office (@USGAO).
We have begun engaging with the U.S. Department of the Treasury (@USTreasury) and the World Bank (@WorldBank), urging the postponement of discretionary loan disbursements to Nigeria until after the February 2027 presidential election. Nigerian President Bola Tinubu's (@officialABAT) pursuit of an additional $1.5 billion in World Bank financing just months before the election raises serious concerns about the timing and potential misuse of these funds.
Nigeria has a documented history of government officials looting public funds, including corruption involving World Bank-financed projects. The @realDonaldTrump administration should not risk billions of dollars being diverted before the election, leaving Nigerians responsible for repaying debt that history has shown will never be repaid in full. As the World Bank's largest shareholder, the United States has a responsibility to safeguard these funds.

Football history was never written by the fans. It was written by FIFA, and FIFA has always needed a clean, marketable god.
That is why they chose Pelé over Maradona.
Pelé was perfect for FIFA's business plan. He was the smiling, non-political, sponsor-friendly ambassador. He never challenged power. He retired early to be an ambassador for Coca-Cola, for the American project, for FIFA itself. He was the safe black icon they could sell to the world without risk.
Maradona was the opposite. He was poor, angry, anti-establishment. He called out FIFA's corruption, he defended the workers, he talked about the Falklands, he exposed how FIFA treated players. He was too real, too dangerous, too loved by the actual people and not by the boardrooms. So FIFA had to erase him.
Look at the timeline. Maradona wins the 1986 World Cup almost alone — the greatest individual World Cup ever. What does FIFA do? They immediately start drug testing him obsessively. In 1990 they let brutal fouling on him go unpunished in the final. In 1994 they kicked him out of the World Cup in the middle of the tournament on live TV to humiliate him. Then they gave Pelé the title "Footballer of the Century" and later forced a shared award when the public voted overwhelmingly for Maradona, because even they couldn't hide the people's vote. They needed Pelé as the official history, even if the streets knew Diego was greater.
Now watch what is happening today with Messi and Ronaldo. It is the exact same script.
Ronaldo is Maradona in this era. He is self-made, outspoken, not owned by the system. He left Europe, he challenged FIFA's new money projects, he speaks openly. Messi is the new Pelé — quiet, sponsor-safe, Adidas, well-managed, never attacks the institutions. He is perfect to be the face FIFA can control after Infantino needed a new legacy.
That is why Ronaldo can score 50 goals a year, carry his country, reach 900 goals, and still be pushed out of the Ballon d'Or conversation. That is why Messi wins a Ballon d'Or for winning Ligue 1 and a World Cup where he got a penalty in every knockout game. That is why every FIFA The Best campaign, every Club World Cup promo, every Inter Miami push is centered on Messi while Ronaldo, who still has the biggest audience in football history, is treated like he doesn't exist.
FIFA did it before. They turned Pelé into a museum statue and tried to make us forget that Maradona was the people's god. Today they are trying to turn Messi into that untouchable statue and make the next generation forget that Ronaldo was the one who defied them and still conquered everything.
History repeats itself because the same organization is writing it.

"President Tinubu's fuel discount reminds me of Fuji House of Commotion. What they're presenting is Tinubu's house of commotion. It doesn't make any sense. None of those people at the press conference represent the NNPC. NNPC is a government agency that has its own management. There's no account in the Ministry of Finance that deals with fuel discounts. One month is not even short-term. It's a flash in the pan. They didn't refer to any law that authorized them to do the fuel discount. It looks to me that President Tinubu's government is confused".

In an interview with me this week on Arise Prime Time, NDC chieftain Buba Galadima alleged that opposition candidates are being offered these sums:
₦50m. ₦200m. ₦500m. ₦2bn - plus vehicles in some cases - to withdraw from the 2027 race and leave APC candidates to contest unopposed.
He further alleged that money was being distributed from a hotel in Abuja and claimed some candidates had already accepted payments. Those allegations have not been independently verified.
But if political competition can allegedly be negotiated with cash, what happens to the voter’s choice?
And if the government says Nigerians are embracing the reforms, while The Economist says public discontent is growing and the Presidency calls that analysis “intellectual fraud”, which Nigeria will voters actually decide in 2027?
The Nigeria of official statistics, the Nigeria of lived hardship, or the Nigeria of political money and machinery?
And at what point does the battle for votes become a battle over whether voters get a genuine choice and a competitive election they can trust the result?
