Excited to see the days of the brand CMO coming to an end and welcome the days of the data CMO
I think any company that principally sells digital goods, but even potentially DTC / eCommerce brands, should position the CMO role as a marketing economist, primarily focusing on measurement and optimal budget allocation.
Digital marketing is increasingly opaque, with the largest platforms absorbing placement-level and audience logic. This requires measurement to be abstracted upward into a full-time executive role that can a) align disparate marketing functions and b) maintain harmony with the CFO’s office. “Marketing economist” strikes me as the right profile to meet those demands.
I know this role indeed exists at many large CPG brands, but what I’m claiming here is that it should exist at digital-first companies as the head of the marketing organization.
Every CMO working with holdcos should be fired. They’re built to buy media efficiently, not buy efficient media.
The modern stack is:
TV: @TatariTV
Paid social: in-house with multiple creative work streams
Audio: Right Side Up, Oxford, or Adopter
Influencer: in-house with platform support Passo.co
OOH: @AdQuick
Martech: recast, Haus, select your attribution provider, podscribe, Tatari, reveal mobile (OOH)
Holdcos refuse any accountability disguised as “brand strategy”
A new legal filing says Sony hired investigators to probe WPP's media rebate practices. Its review said that WPP ran a "global crime scheme" and improperly withheld rebates, the filing says. WPP said that the lawsuit referencing it is "baseless."

Here's a Saturday growth note you never thought about:
99% of brands (hell maybe 99.9%) aren't using MMMs to their full power 🪫
If you aren't running multiple models with different channels fragmented/aggregated, you're missing the juice 🧃
Examples 📝:
In your main model look at streaming TV as 1 channel, but for optimization look at disney vs. non-disney.
You can do the same with Linear TV. Fragment to Tier 1 vs. Tier 2/3. Tier 2/3 will look good in spike model attribution, but I promise you they aren't as incremental
MMM vendors should be proactive about building side models to uncover nuggets
I posted this exact challenge for myself…was 34, wanted to dunk by 40.
Odds weren’t good. I’m 5’7”.
3 days later I tore my meniscus 😔
i’m training to dunk a basketball
the odds don’t look good
48 yr old
6 ft
180 lbs
standing reach 91”
needed reach: 130”
that’s a 39” vertical
which exceeds ave nba player (35.5”)
here are the thresholds I need to meet:
> takeoff velocity 14.5 ft/s
> ground force: 585 lbs
> time to take off: 0.2 sec
> peak power: 14.8 hp (11 kW)
landing is even more intimidating
> creates load equal to 6-10x body weight
> 1,080 to 1,800 lbs of ground reaction force
injury risk
> 3-5x rupture risk for men my age
> 1,080-1,800 lbs funneled via centimeter thick tendon
> knees absorbing 7-9x body weight
age disadvantage
power+rate of force down 25-40% at age 48
what is your assessment, will I be able to do it?
My fable conspiracy: Anthropic didn't have the compute to support fable, so the gov't shutdown thing was manufactured
Played around with this for 5 min then upgraded to paid. it's magical. what Icon should have been. not a paid post.

One of the cooler experiences I’ve had lately - the legend @tymonster3 and the RocketMoney team using @grunsdaily to physically demonstrate the concept of incrementality at their team offsite.
Nothing cooler than watching Haus customers become the masters in incrementality 👏
