“I am damned if I am going to stand on a stage… and be demeaned and humiliated by nobodies.” Nigel Farage tonight, refusing to attend his own Clacton election declaration. “Nobodies.” Just ordinary British citizens who exercised exactly the same democratic right to stand for Parliament that Nigel Farage did. For years he’s told us he’s the anti-establishment champion of ordinary people. And then, when ordinary people have the temerity to appear on the same ballot paper as him, they’re beneath him. I think that tells us rather more about Nigel Farage than tonight’s result ever could.
