Seems like the key to adult friendship keeps coming back to Shared Quest and the excitable mutual acknowledgement of the support needed on that Shared Quest,

🆕 We did a terrible job with covid. 😷 The next pandemic could be MUCH worse. We don't have to do the same stupid things again! Relatively inexpensive actions now can mitigate or fully prevent it. 🔗 Link in reply tweet! ⤵️

If this were true then we would have no concepts for grace, virtue, discernment. Proportionality. Wisdom. Experience would mean nothing. Formulating an appropriate response to the present moment turns out to be one the hardest and rarest skills to develop.

Has anyone written very lucidly about countering relational aggression, manipulation, backbiting/gossip, woke social tactics etc. inside organizations? Any recommendations on books or blogs or Twitter accounts are welcome.

Gerwig is one of the few genuinely critical thinkers in Hollywood making interesting art. On the surface this looks like standard wokewashing but the Barbie movie, of all things ended up being a surprisingly complex, humane meditation on men and women. I say give her a shot.
Meryl Streep will officially voice Aslan in Greta Gerwig’s ‘NARNIA: THE MAGICIAN'S NEPHEW’. 🔗 empireonline.com/movies/news…

I used to say don’t force writing. it flows out naturally. now I am not so sure. Dostoyevsky wrote Crime and Punishment through severe depression. by sheer force. had a deadline to meet. was drowning in debt. his whole life depended on it. he certainly wasn’t having a good time. begs the question: do writers of today over-romanticise the process? and just how much of their magnum opus have they missed ‘waiting for the right time’? I am certainly not gonna park and wait. I’ll start applying force.
Keep writing. Keep writing when upset. Keep writing when in writer’s block. Keep writing mid-recession. Keep writing when broke, heart-wise, money-wise, morale-wise. Keep writing when sick and bedridden. Keep writing even if there’s no ink left. Use your blood if you have to.

Whenever Mormon missionaries are in the neighborhood I always tell them I won't be converting but if they need water or a bathroom they are welcome to use my house I just appreciate the care for my soul. One good turn deserves another
I feel so loved when I talk to a Real Safetyist. they beseech me to quit the lab as though they are trying to save my immortal soul

I'm just going to say it. I hate doing yoga. It's tedious and annoying and takes my body back to the worst parts of the Marine Corps. I'd rather do almost any other enactivist practice. I feel 10x at one with myself and the universe playing football with my friends

it’s amazing how much modern therapy language escaped therapy settings. i.e. concepts created for genuinely dysfunctional relationships like boundaries, trauma, triggers, toxicity, narcissism etc became simple ordinary vocabulary esp on social media. also this type of language completely removed one of civilization’s oldest error correction mechanisms where someone you respected told you that you were being a dickhead. now they just send you to therapy.

Flynn Rider literally was stabbed to death and died in Rapunzel’s arms to make sure she was no longer enslaved by Mother Gothel Hercules gave up his opportunity to live among the gods and his real family atop Mt. Olympus and die as a mortal to spend his life with Meg Beast subjected himself to the curse for eternity so Belle could be free - she came back to him anyway because he was her true love Aladdin used his last wish not to become a prince to be worthy enough to marry Jasmine, but to free the genie at risk of losing the love of his life Kristoff let Anna go be with another man who she naively *thought* was her one true love because he loved her so much all he wanted was for her to be happy, even if it wasn’t with him I could keep going, but why are we so obsessed with making it seem like fairytales are misogynistic propaganda? If anything, the ONE recurring theme is that a happy ending requires immense sacrifice from the hero, usually to prioritize the princess
is there a fairytale that exists where the guy gives up everything for love and it's considered a happy ending? Because when a woman sacrifices her identity for a man, it's “true love,” but when a man is expected to sacrifice, suddenly it’s oppression.

You can just tweet stuff. And if it turns out you’re clearly and demonstrably wrong you can just reply “oh ok my bad” to everyone who points it out in the replies. Nothing bad will come of it

Much of what is perceived as misogyny is just an attempt to point out that women do in fact have a great source of power within them, and that it requires civilizational guardrails just as much as male power does.
The future of women's equality depends on a culture-wide reckoning with the female capacity for evil. We either update our representations of women to reflect their complexity, or we keep pretending they're fragile & wonderful and watch their status backslide to that of children.
