أتوجه بالشكر إلى قناة @Rudawkurdish وإلى السيد @dilbixwindara على إتاحة الفرصة لمناقشة الوضع الراهن للاجئين السوريين في إقليم كوردستان العراق. ومع تراجع تمويل المساعدات الإنسانية في العراق، ينبغي علينا التركيز على إيجاد حل نهائي لقضية نزوح اللاجئين؛ وذلك من خلال:
- إنهاء اعتمادهم على المساعدات الإنسانية عبر تعزيز فرص مساهمتهم الاقتصادية داخل المجتمعات المضيفة في العراق،
- العمل مع السلطات في سوريا لتخفيف ومعالجة المخاوف الأمنية والاقتصادية والاجتماعية التي تعيق العودة الطوعية،
- التعاون مع السلطات في العراق لتسهيل عملية العودة إلى سوريا عندما يقرر اللاجئون أنهم مستعدون للعودة إلى وطنهم.

Thanks @RudawEnglish & Kak @dilbixwindara for discussion on Syrian refugees in Kurdistan Region of Iraq . With the significant reduction of humanitarian funding in #Iraq, we must focus on resolving #refugee displacement:
- through ending their dependence on humanitarian assistance by increasing opportunities to contribute economically within host communities in Iraq,
- through working with authorities in #Syria to mitigate & resolve security, economic and social concerns that are barriers to voluntary return, &
- through working with authorities in Iraq to help facilitate return when refugees decide they are ready to go home to Syria. @Kurdistan

In my meeting with UNHCR @tobyharward, we discussed the humanitarian situation and conditions of IDPs, refugees and camps. We stressed the importance of strengthening coordination with government institutions and local organizations for continued support.

.@tobyharward, the Head of Office and Representative for UNHCR Iraq, told Kurdistan Chronicle that over 270,000 refugees and asylum seekers live in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq. The large majority — around 260,000 — are Syrians.
“This has been the case since the start of the Syria conflict in 2011, when Syrian Kurds from north-eastern Syria fled across the border to a region where they share language and cultural ties,” he said.
“The Kurdistan Region of Iraq has also attracted Syrian religious minorities, including Christians, Alawites and Druze. The Kurdistan Region also hosts refugees from other countries such as Iran, Türkiye, and Palestine.”

Almost 100,000 internally displaced Iraqis remain in 18 IDP camps.
Most have been displaced for over a decade.
In Dohuk & Zakho, UNHCR is supporting local authorities to provide safe shelter. Distributions of new tents to the most vulnerable families are currently underway.
