I didn’t become convinced against Christian nationalism by reading another book. I became convinced after my own church faced discrimination when we were denied permission to build. Here’s why that experience clarified how I think about the government's authority in matters of religion.

The more sinister idea is that what you do today carries no inheritance forward.
Serve your country. Build something. Sacrifice. Endure. Die for it.
Then be told your descendants have no special claim to your story, no right to take pride in your sacrifice, no deeper connection because of what you gave.
Once you convince a people that inheritance, lineage, and posterity mean nothing, you’ve weakened one of the oldest reasons men sacrifice for a future they’ll never live to see.
That is fertile ground for any system that wants loyalty transferred from family and inheritance to the state.

Mamdani announces that he's suing the Trump admin over the new rule that allows them to deny green cards to foreigners who are likely to rely on welfare.
Says that "four million people will unenroll from their healthcare" and that "people will die" if more green cards aren't given to welfare dependent foreigners.

By all accounts, the BTK Killer (that's "Bind, Torture, Kill") was a loving father. He also murdered people for his own enjoyment, including children.
It took years for his daughter to reconcile this and recall moments the mask slipped. Clancy's children will never be able to.
My politics are that I don’t want this guy here and I think whatever policy led to him being allowed to come here should be ended.
I get insane levels of racism and Islamophobia from MAGA and Likud types on here but a reminder that self-proclaimed liberals and centrists are not immune to it either.
Here’s Noah Smith, a pundit, quite mainstream, saying I’d apparently ‘be happier’ living in the Gulf and ‘America would be happier too.’ Does he speak for America? Stephen Miller and Laura Loomer couldn’t have said it better.
Also, even a cursory look at my journalistic record of two decades would show it’s obviously untrue to claim I only care about the MidEast. But it is an Islamophobic trope, and the fact that I do care about the fate of peoples other than my own is indeed hard for a selfish racist nationalist like Smith to absorb.

A couple important clarifications. He did not serve four years for killing a 50-year old and shooting 7 others. He plead guilty and was sentenced to four years in July of 2023. He was released 3 years later. He did spend much of 2023 on house arrest awaiting the trial, however that ended when on house arrest he threatened someone with a gun.
Anyway when people bring up mass incarceration or whatever remind them that gangsters can spray bullets into crowds of families and be out on the streets in 3 years.

Willia Tolliver was sentenced June 16, 2023, to 4 years in prison after pleading guilty to second-degree manslaughter, third-degree assault, and second-degree unlawful possession of a firearm after the Jan. 22, 2020, shooting outside a McDonald's at Third Avenue and Pine Street. A 50-year-old woman was killed & seven others were injured, including a 9-year-old boy who was walking with his family after a trip to the Pacific Science Center.

“Human life” is not actually a taboo, as the last couple of weeks have shown.
The only true taboos in our society concern making women or ethnic/sexual minorities uncomfortable at any scale.
In fact, you’ll notice that when “human life” is even invoked, it’s ultimately in service of those groups demanding something for themselves but trying to present it in more objective terms.

If you're a Zoomer who just got involved in politics in the last decade, you have no idea just how awful things were before Trump came along.
Prior to 2016, Republicans in Congress were debating how many millions of illegals they should grant amnesty to while College Republicans were publicly coming out in favor of mandatory LGBT sensitivity classes in universities.
This was all at the start of the Great Awokening, when not a single person on the Right understood what was going on or how to respond to it, so of course, the natural inclination among conservatives was immediate and total capitulation.
