At the 2003 BET Awards, Michael Jackson made a surprise appearance to present his idol, James Brown, with the Lifetime Achievement Award In Los Angeles
MJ, deeply emotional, praised James Brown as his biggest influence since childhood, delivering a heartfelt speech, stating, "Nobody has influenced me more than this man right here" and noted that he had looked up to him since he was six years old
Before the formal presentation, the two shared a brief, unchoreographed dance moment on stage.
The event is widely considered one of the most iconic moments in the history of the BET Awards.

"#Sinners ultimately fell short of best picture, and the Academy now enters its 99th year without a Black winner in the best director category. But the film’s place in Oscars history remains secure," writes @ByClaytonDavis.
"The closing images of the night — Michael B. Jordan, Ryan Coogler and Autumn Durald Arkapaw standing together with their statuettes — represented something larger than a single category."
