Honored to have President @BarackObama's support in this election. From protecting reproductive rights and vote-by-mail to fighting for affordable health care, food assistance, and fair wages, President Obama and I share a commitment to the values that make Oregon special. Now, let’s get out there and win this – together.

As a man of faith, I pray every day. Faith is a thing there’s just too little of in Washington.

I’m in the office three days a week and I really think it’s ideal for building company culture and allowing more senior folks to mentor more junior folks, while also providing some flexibility.
My strongest “vibes not evidence” belief is that remote work is a cancer that’s making (most) people miserable even though it seems better in the short term.

Would we call a Spanish-language immersion school successful if its graduates could barely understand Spanish? We should take the mission of our Catholic schools just as seriously. Academic excellence matters. So does forming students who know Jesus Christ and can understand, articulate and live the faith. Therefore, I am calling for a significant and genuine renewal of Catholic education in the Archdiocese of Portland, beginning in our Catholic elementary schools, middle schools, and high schools and eventually extending to the religious education and faith formation programs in our parishes. I am calling for a renewal of what we call “Mission Passionate Catholic Education. Read more: archdpdx.org/news/go-therefo…

I ask Catholics throughout Western Oregon and all people of good will to join me in praying for the full recovery of Pope Leo XIV following his surgery for lung cancer. At a time when war, division and uncertainty weigh heavily on people around the world, the Holy Father’s calls for peace, dialogue and respect for the dignity of every person offer a much-needed message of hope to people everywhere.

Capital punishment is unacceptable in any case. The planned broadcast of the taking of a life by firing squad is nothing short of performative barbarism. Do we really want our children, who will inevitably view it, exposed to the pornography of a state-sponsored slaying?

As we mark again the World Day Against the Death Penalty, we call to mind God’s command: ‘do not repay anyone evil for evil.’ (Romans 12:17) Amidst a culture that seems focused on death, we remember that no person is beyond God’s love, mercy and redemption, as Archbishop Shelton J Fabre, reminds us. The Church offers this message to all people - without exception. We mourn with victims’ families and also recognize that the death penalty only pulls us away from a culture of life. Join us in prayer for an end to the use of the death penalty in our country and around the world, and for the conversion of all hearts and minds towards a culture of life. @CMNEndtheDP @ArchLouKY

The death penalty is inadmissible because it is an attack on the inviolability and dignity of the person. The common good can be safeguarded and the requirements of justice can be met without recourse to capital punishment: effective systems of detention have been developed that protect citizens while at the same time do not completely deprive those who are guilty of the possibility of redemption. #NoDeathPenalty

Strong response from the Catholic Church to the news. "The public execution even of one who has done grave harm will only further undermine the moral fabric of our nation and be a blight on the conscience of its people."
NEW: The head of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops has issued a statement firmly condemning plans to livestream the execution of Nidal Malik Hasan. Archbishop Paul Coakley calls the decision “a barbaric promotion of a culture of death and must be reconsidered.”

The first mission of the Church is to help people be attentive to the profound questions of life: those concerning our origin and our destiny, as well as those concerning the meaning of love and suffering. The logic of profit at all costs and the manipulation of information risk exerting undue pressure on people to conform to a lifestyle centred on the consumption of material goods, but our hearts are made to look upwards. #GeneralAudience

It's called "managed decline" dude. It's so sick. Ok, so get this. There's no national project or anything to believe in but the elites will impotently gesture at previous periods of national progress without understanding the context for that period of prosperity. It rocks.

Very amusing that tech bros do not understand why we hate them. Straight face saying, Look you're going to have to accept that everything is going to change to your detriment and my benefit, your jobs your art, all that is going away, and also maybe you're going to die, but that is a price I am willing to let you pay on my behalf because rest assured that I will be good. This is Altman, Andreessen, Sacks, Musk, Lonsdale, Karp, Zuck, it's all of them. And none of them get it. Boot on your neck asking you, Why are you struggling?

There exists a martyrdom of those who offer their lives in a single moment, and the more hidden martyrdom of those who give their lives day after day. This is exactly what all Christians are called to do: to give our lives with love, every day.

Freaking insane. Our elected leaders need to move past the polling safe territory of data center resistance to the real work of regulating these narcissistic freaks who gleefully tell us that we “need to accept some bad things” from ai for their massive profits. And they don’t even know the limits of what they’re unleashing.

In this era of artificial intelligence, it is becoming urgent to distinguish human art from what machines produce. There is an ontological difference, even before an aesthetic one, between art and what a machine can generate through statistical calculation based on millions of images created by others. Algorithms lack the spark of humanity. For this reason, the Church wishes to renew an alliance with artists and cultural institutions to safeguard our humanity.
