When you burn down a building that houses a democratic entity you are attacking democracy itself. This is extremists manipulating grievances to attack Democracy itself. The Democratic State either defends itself or it’s lost.

The Nazis thought of destroying this historic city hall. And decided against it. These bastards have just done it.

French men built this in the 1800s and it has been carefully maintained for 150+ years… It survived both World Wars. The far-left and their imported migrants just destroyed it.
Absolute savages… The historic town hall in Limoges, France is gone. The steeple just collapsed.

Matt and Leo somehow think because new migrants are largely in private rented accommodation and living in wealthy areas that that somehow means it's a net benefit for society How exactly does it benefit the country to have a greater share of higher earners demanding private rental accommodation, thus raising prices, when we're facing growing rental inflation ? As @SineadOS1 has said, this also creates a clash with the existing middle class: "The middle class is about to experience what the working class has experienced for years: brutal competition for their livelihood in a system designed by employers, enthusiastically endorsed by the Irish state, and built without any institutional framework to manage the consequences."

These days, I'm struck by how the dominant mood on both sides of the Atlantic toward the other is a kind of pity. Europe frets about the US's supposed slide into autocracy; the US about Europe's pusillanimity and immiseration.

Finally we are beginning to see @LeoVaradkar speak a bit more honestly on immigration. A few months ago he also wrote a notable argument in the Sunday Times, “if you want to be an Irish Citizen, you must be the sugar in the milk” Matt Cooper still needs to open up his eyes to how a high trust, well functioning welfare State cannot support open immigration to welfare. I’d ask everyone on the left to take a good look at recent social housing statistics, (the ones the Irish Times refuse to print!) I’d ask them to read about how the “welfare is currently killing Britain” (article in this week’s WSJ) I’d ask them to look across the EU at how France , Germany & beyond are about to flip populist right. Denmark is the playbook. Just do it 🇩🇰

The Hellfire Club on Montpelier Hill in the Dublin Mountains, is a building shrouded in mystery. It was built in 1725 as a hunting lodge, using stone stolen from a nearby ancient neolithic tomb. It became home to the Dublin branch of the notorious ‘Hellfire Club’, a London-based hedonistic fraternity for English " gentlemen". William Connolly, an Irish Parliamentary Speaker founded the Montpelier Hill site as a lonely hunting lodge in 1725 but didn't live long enough to have much craic there. After his death, the original roof mysteriously blew off... When Connolly’s widow leased the spooky stone hideout to a high-ranking member of the Hellfire Club, the Earl of Rosse in 1735, supernatural rumours about the building's ancient spirits and satanic antics began to spread. The lodge quickly became associated with sex, blasphemy, and the worship of Satan. Despite rumours of demonic summoning, child sacrifice, and ritual cannibalism, it's far more likely these bacchanalian aristocrats were indulging in childish pantomimes of Satanism, complete with funny costumes, and a little homoerotic horseplay. Good clean fun! When it burned down for the last time, rumour had it the source of the blaze was a member, Lord Santry, burning a dwarf servant alive in a ritual gone wrong. It was then abandoned. Arguably more dangerous clientele than faux-Satanists moved in to the ruined site in the 20th century when it became a hangout for criminals and drug abusers. It's still wise to visit this well-maintained archaeological site in company and by daylight!

I met newly qualified nurses yesterday who were visibly upset and frustrated. After four years of training, they want nothing more than to start their careers in our health service. The Minister confirmed that 224 of 307 nursing and midwifery graduates in the West and North West have been offered posts, but others are still waiting. I welcome the Minister's clear acknowledgement that these graduates deserve better treatment. However, I asked for a firm timeline for contracts to be issued, and that assurance was not given. We have invested in training these young professionals. We need to retain them, not leave them uncertain about their futures. I want this sorted, and I'll keep pressing until we have clarity and action.

European gas prices have almost tripled on this time last year. Unless a lot more Qatari LNG starts getting out of the Gulf asap, energy bills are heading a lot higher over the winter.
