All flights out of russia should be shut down immediately, and any country which does not comply should have its flights shut down. The time to act was yesterday.
Russia's plague outbreak is getting worse, now with 5 hospitals in Irkutsk quarantined, universities canceling classes and accusations from healthcare workers that the government is attempting a media cover-up.
Nearly 200 contacts of a 28-year-old anti-plague laboratory worker who died last week are reportedly under isolation or medical observation.
Irkutsk universities are canceling classes citing a “case of pneumonic plague,” while an aluminum plant introduced mandatory masks. A local government warning advising residents not to travel to Shelekhov was published and later deleted.
Healthcare workers claim doctors are discussing plague internally while avoiding the diagnosis in official documents.
Russian health authorities continue to deny any plague outbreak, attributing the woman's death to “pneumonia of unknown origin.”
Pneumonic plague is far worse that it's Bubonic cousin as its transmitted directly between humans.

up at 3am flailing & grunting, to show my newborn son I care about his hobbies and interests
absolutely entranced by the orange color of the zoom "new meeting" button. it's so unnaturally bright in my staid workplace environment. i imagine this is how peasants felt when they saw the virgin mary portrayed with blue pigment worth more than their lifetime earnings
i gotta say, reading the report, i'm very captivated by the emotions of it all
that aside, grim stuff, we will need some luck
I saw a picture of the Hungarian Parliament for the first time! I thought it was too good, had to be some kind of midjourney fakery, but there is actually a building that cool out there!
disassembling, cleaning, and reassembling my wife's breast pump like i'm a hardened soldier on the front lines
my wife, unprompted:
if i die, you can marry a woman more beautiful than me. but you have to treat her poorly
wonder how much being good at normative thought "things should be like x" interferes with being good at descriptive thought "things are like x" and vice versa
both for tech infrastructure and the world more broadly

The Teacher’s Union fought phonics-based instruction bc it was mundanely effective at teaching kids to read and didn’t let the teachers feel like selfless martyrs.
This is Munchausen syndrome by proxy and the Union should be nuked from orbit.

this bird looks like it was drawn by someone who had never seen a bird before...real "two monks draw..." vibes
every subsequent child has to learn to navigate a complex social web faster...the oldest child doesn't learn to navigate a family of 5 until they're like 4 years old, but the youngest does it from 0. wonder how much this explains birth order effects... person vs thing orientation
been working on something i'm calling "morsel theory", which is that whenever you have a food with distinctive morsels (like maybe matzo balls) amid a mellower substrate (like a broth), then it's crucial that the morsels are more seasoned than the substrate
haters will say that pasta or mapo tofu are counterexamples, but I think the noodles/tofu are the substrate, not the morsel!!!
