Roots are an often-forgotten part of a tree. They are shallower and extend further than commonly thought. A root protection area (15 x truck diameter) will prevent root and soil damage. Coming soon: @AncientTreesATF and @WoodlandTrust Guide to caring for special trees on farms

Say it every year but please please try and do this if you have a cat. I’ve had several bats in the past few weeks and many have not have a good outcome!
Very sad to see images like these. If you are a cat owner please keep your cat indoors at night or bring it in half an hour before sunset and keep it in for an hour after sunset from June-August. If you know someone who has a cat please RT. More info: bats.org.uk/about-bats/threa…
Finally some blue sky after a day and a half of surveying trees in the rain and drizzle. I'm extremely fortunate to work in some fabulous locations with such amazing ancient and other veteran #trees #Newforest #Hampshire

Planting trees is a great thing to do, but they have to be in the right place and for the right reasons. Open grown trees are very important for biodiversity. Planting lots of whips (young trees) at 1.5m spacings, then leaving them is a bad idea. bbc.co.uk/news/science-envir…
Race directors...think of all the race tops with 2020 printed on that will end up in landfill due to cancellations☹️ An amazingly simple way to resolve this - remove the date from your race tops. Then add the @treesnottees option and you’ll have to order fewer every year...🌲🌲
