Well this seems like a positive step.
We’re committing a portion of Anthropic’s shares to the Anthropic Public Benefit Fund, a new wholly owned entity dedicated entirely to the public benefit.
It will start off with 5% of our shares. For every 50% increase in the company’s value over a set baseline, we can contribute up to an extra 2%, subject to our board’s discretion.
In total, this means that roughly 20% of Anthropic’s shares are committed to the public good. Our co-founders have already pledged to donate 80% of their equity, and around half our employees are donating a portion of their equity as part of a donation matching program we’ve run since our founding.
In the post below, we share more details about our new fund.

UBI is a floor. It's a dividend. It's not about replacing jobs. It's about making sure everyone has a non-zero floor to stand on and never fall beneath, and it makes sure that everyone benefits from GDP growth. And it is about enabling everyone to *choose* what they work on, paid or not.
Who's in Portland, Oregon? We're coming to town with a free screening and fun event on Sept 16.

Survey question:
I haven't posted much in a while, because the algorithm squished me and/or perhaps I've become boring, and it's sad to get no engagement.
Anybody miss my UBI stuff?
Between us, I do expect to have some exciting things to share pretty soon.

I just read Sapolsky's book Determined and it kind of blew my mind. There's a biological argument for unconditional basic income to be made based on how our decisions depend on factors beyond our control. If free will is an illusion, then we should make sure to end poverty and reduce chronic stress.

Come see our first big screening in Toronto!
We're headed to TORONTO! 💛
Join us on Saturday, August 22 for a sneak peek of Bootstraps, a docuseries by Emmy-winning filmmaker Deia Schlosberg that followed eleven households through a multi-year basic income experiment 🎥

Git it, Europe!
Organizers for a new EU-wide Unconditional Basic Income (UBI) initiative now have 6 months to begin a 12-month period of collecting signatures. It must gather at least one million valid statements of support from EU citizens, and also reach minimum thresholds in at least 7 member states.
This will be the third attempt. The first was in 2013 and the second was in 2020. The first attempt got 285,000 sigs and 6 countries crossed the threshold. The second attempt got 296,000 sigs and 4 countries crossed the threshold. We'll see if this attempt can reach the 1M sigs and 7 countries needed.

It's been almost 10 years since I started working remotely from home. I'm guessing that's about 4 solid months worth of my life I've gained back by not commuting to jobs, while also lowering my carbon footprint and my stress significantly.
It's a lucky situation to be in, having a job you can do from home. Still gotta go out and connect with people in the real world somehow, though.
I need someone to dress up like Waldo at a @USMNT world cup game and sit in the crowd, and I need someone else to photograph that whole side of the stadium in ultra high res, and then I'd like to turn that into a giant poster.
Why oh why does @YouTubeTV imagine it's a good idea to display the score of the soccer games I've recorded on the recording link that i have to click on to watch the game? That's maybe the dumbest UI choice I've ever seen. Why, I wonder, do they imagine one records sporting events?
No notes. Good old Tom.
