Universal Basic Income is security in an age of instability. Rapid technological change creates concentrated gains and widely shared risks. UBI is the mechanism that returns part of those gains to everyone and protects everyone from the downside economic risks. It's a stabilizer.

If your business model relies on the threat of starvation to keep employees, you don't have a business model—you have a hostage situation. Universal Basic Income fixes the power imbalance between capital and labor. It fosters a labor market that truly is a free market for labor.

Why do we treat the economy like it’s a force of nature that just happens to us? It’s a system we designed. If it’s not working for the majority of people, we shouldn’t be asking how to fix the people—we should be redesigning the system. Any proper redesign needs to include UBI.

One of our very special projects is taking its first social media steps. Let's give Bootstraps a follow. We have a feeling you're going to like what they have to share over the next year or two especially.
What is #UniversalBasicIncome (UBI)? ✅ Everyone gets it no matter your income, job status, or background. 🗓️ Regular cash payments. 💸 Spend it how you need. No strings attached. What are your initial thoughts on #UBI? 👇

Zing!
"The 'donor fanfare' line item in the operations budget is currently at around 57% of revenue, but we're looking to really beef that up in the coming years. It's just taken us a little while longer than anticipated to streamline and lean down our expenditures on the impact side. Please be patient with us; we're moving as slowly as we can."

Heads up, Americans. In 2025, we're going to build a new nation. No need to renounce citizenship; it will exist within our borders. This will not be a political nation, though there will be taxes. It will not be a welfare state, though there will be an economic floor of support for all for all who choose to join us. It will be a nation of humanity. It will be a nation of solidarity. All will be welcome. Stay tuned. Follow via myself, @comingler1, and @scottsantens to learn more and stay updated. Support via @ITSAfoundation if you want to help us build faster.

One way to better visualize unconditional basic income is to think about the income you currently have, and to consider how different it would be to know that $1000/mo of it is permanent. Like if your income is $5000/mo and you lost your job, you'd fall to $1000/mo, not $0/mo.

How @AndrewYang would make use of $1 billion besides spending on democracy reforms and policy lobbying: "Internationally, it's @GiveDirectly, domestically I'm going to call out @scottsantens's @ITSAfoundation because they are very small, scrappy, and pure, and they're genuine."🫶

Human beings are not wild animals. We have the capacity for strong feelings of societal obligation and collaboration across immense numbers of people. We have stories and narratives, we have societies and nations, and we each have a deep and abiding desire to achieve higher purpose and legacy, to matter to the world around us and to our species. That's why we're the dominant species on the planet by a mile. It's not that we're just that much individually smarter or more talented as creatures. It's that we have the capacity to work together across groups of millions or even billions toward complex, shared goals built around mutual stories. And when we provide people a heartbeat of income unconditionally and with trust, you usually find that people strive toward these higher ideals, because they are what truly drive us when fear and scarcity are removed, and when those narratives of society and belonging are reinforced. It's when we force people to compete with each other for scraps and basic subsistence that we see dependence and more "animalistic" behavior, because we're perpetuating a system that backs people into a corner like wild animals. Threaten someone's ability to feed themselves or their kids, and you get survival behavior. Empower and trust them, and you unleash our better angels. This isn't just nice sounding theory at this point. It's what has been witnessed every time, across at least a hundred thousand participants of over a hundred different basic income experiments (less crime/vice/addiction, more business creation, more trust, healthier family life, higher integrity/morality, etc).
