Did I just become the first person in the world to complete a Beat Saber level with my Oculus CV1 under Linux? I think so! youtu.be/dc_Dpfl1I8o @OpenHMD
I'm not posting here on Twitter any more. If you're interested in Linux VR stuff, you can find me on Mastodon. @thaytan@aus.social
Woo! I just became the first person in the world to play a (screen recording of) Half-Life: Alyx on a PSVR2 in Linux, after hacking my kernel to get 4000x2040@120Hz output working
gitlab.freedesktop.org/monad… merged to @MonadoXR - one step closer to complete WMR controller support for all headsets
Another step: gitlab.freedesktop.org/monad… adds support HP Reverb G2 controllers connected through the headset (as they ship from the factory).
I had a fun weekend visiting beerlabs.com.au/ - hacking on @NorthStarXR AR, and @MonadoXR WMR support
What started as some light protocol capture turned quickly into a deep dive into elliptic curve cryptography. Seems implementing PSVR2 support might be harder than we hoped. More locked down than any other headset I've worked with.
(Incomplete and possibly incorrect) PSVR2 Kernel acronyms cheat sheet:
ISP - Image Signal Processor
FM - Feature Matcher
GCE - Global Command Engine (part of ISP)
LDVT - Linux Design Verification Test (stupid top-level name for some of the VR driver pieces)
I put my PSVR2's USB-C connector under a microscope and it's missing 2 USB 2.0 pins, like a spec-following USB-C plug should. That means it can't be VirtualLink, which would need all 4 pins
I tweeted this earlier, and then deleted it because apparently *some* PSVR2 cables *do* have all the pins and I wanted to be sure - but if some headsets are missing them, then none of them can be using those pins. (My headset works fine without those pins)
I made a joke that @MonadoXR is short for "Moustache Tornado", and now I can't stop thinking about this new logo DALL-E gave me for the project

I used to lament that I could never get nasturtiums to grow, because the chickens would always strip them bare. Next time we have chooks they'll have a harder time!

It's only a few days away until our GStreamer Autumn Hackfest here in our offices in Barcelona! 🇪🇸 It will be an event where we can share our experience and work through two days of non-stopping hacking in different areas of the @gstreamer project 💻 Who is coming?

Anyone in Barcelona, Spain between 17th and 18th of October you might want to visit the GStreamer hackfest as PipeWire maintainer Wim Taymans will be attending and would be happy to discuss PipeWire with you there. wiki.gnome.org/Hackfests/Gst…
In just over 5 hours, I'll be (remotely) presenting a talk at @FossXR 2022 on writing drivers for Oculus Rift (CV1 & S) VR headsets. youtube.com/watch?v=ZkwL5IzY… for the live stream
