Pasteurization Saves Lives: Milk Myths vs. Science - Fork U with Dr. Terry Simpson forku.com/episode/pasteuriza…
Before going to my 40th medical school reunion @UChicagoMed my old mentor died, Dr Roizman. I was looking forward to seeing him and telling him how much I appreciated the years in his lab. Alas, 17 days before the reunion, he died - 96 years old
Dear @alaskaair and @AmericanAir - love the lounges but somehow I cannot get into Alaska without the "Admirals Club" logo on the back of my card, which I carry in my iPhone - but it doesn't say Admirals Club on it - so I was denied entrance. I wonder if you could fix that?

Ah, the carnivore rabbit hole. You start by questioning carbohydrates and end up questioning everything except the diet that started you down the hole.
You question pharmaceutical trials, but not the absence of long-term carnivore trials. You question cholesterol research, but dismiss decades of evidence linking ApoB-containing particles to atherosclerosis. You question the food industry's financial interests, but apparently the meat and dairy industries are charitable organizations.
And yes, sleep, exercise, sunlight, and eating fewer ultra-processed foods matter. None of those require giving up fruit, vegetables, legumes, or whole grains.
The real test of critical thinking isn't how many established ideas you question. It's whether you're willing to question the ideas you have come to believe.
Keep going down that rabbit hole. Just remember to bring a flashlight, and as with us all, you have to watch out for your own confirmation bias.
Carnivore is where the rabbit hole starts.
You start by questioning carbohydrates.
That leads you to glucose and insulin. Then metabolic health. Then cholesterol.
And cholesterol is where the rabbit hole gets considerably deeper.
You start reading about statins, pharmaceutical trials, relative versus absolute risk, who funds the research and why so much of modern healthcare revolves around managing individual markers.
Then you start questioning the food industry. Why we eat all day. Why food needs 30 ingredients. Why animal fat became something to fear while industrially manufactured food became completely normal.
Eventually you’re questioning far more than food.
Artificial light at night. Barely seeing daylight. Sitting all day. Constant eating. Poor sleep. Then another product, prescription or gadget to deal with the consequences.
You thought carnivore was about changing your food and eating meat.
But you end up changing the way you look at modern life.
That’s why I call it Live Ancestral.
Who else has gone from that rabbit hole?
amazing job - from one of my favorite operations

As much as I love my @Tesla it is too slow to parallel park - the advantage of being a boomer is I can see the spot, get into it in one smooth move. If I let Tesla do it the thing takes 20 seconds to make up its mind and is so jerky that I think we are having another earthquake.

UChicago Facilities introduced two new fish species—redear sunfish and bluegill—to the pond, along with protective boulders that provide shelter and habitat. They also added more fathead minnows, golden shiners and channel catfish to strengthen the pond’s food web.

Hint: Whenever an antivaxxer says his work “has never been to remove vaccines from the planet” and that it’s all about “freedom,” he’s either lying or deluding himself. In Del’s case, it’s probably both, the exact proportion of lie vs. delusion depending on the specific topic.
My work has never been to remove vaccines from the planet. My work is the right to choose. If we are free citizens, if I control my own body, then I must be able to control what gets injected into it. And if those are my children, then I should be able to decide whether they get vaccinated. If the government can override that decision, then my children are property of the state. That is not a free country.
And another thing - we worry about gain-of-function research, about scientists making a pathogen more contagious so it can spread to more people. That's the fear. But what's the functional difference between a disease that spreads on its own to a million people and a government program that injects all seven billion of us with it? The contagion question becomes irrelevant the moment you have a mandate and a needle.
That is what makes mRNA technology so consequential in the wrong hands. It doesn't introduce a foreign protein. It turns your body into a factory that produces it. And if the wrong person is sitting at the top of HHS when the next declared emergency arrives, the infrastructure to do exactly that is already in place.

Before you "do your own research" - consider getting a formal education in science - because those of us who do or have done research - that is the basics. Oh and if you think you found new biochemistry through Carnivore - start with bio 101, you failed
