By default your family photos are going straight into Apple's AI training pipeline after this new update by the way. Their terms allow running AI evals on your private pics. iPhone too.
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
Everything in this post is not true. Read the screenshot: it has nothing to do with AI. And to take from the other note: EVS “applies homomorphic encryption and differential privacy, and uses an OHTTP relay that hides IP address”, which prevents Apple from accessing that info. apple.com/legal/privacy/…

People don’t realize that over the last five days the YIMBY movement has gone nationally mainstream. While some politicians may have feigned about the struggles and paining of people struggling with housing, very few were willing or had the courage to actually name the cause – A SHORTAGE OF HOUSING. Not only did Kamala Harris mention it, she said we’re gonna fix it and even gave a timeline with number of new housing units as a target to be built. After years of fighting on this, it is so comforting that over-and-over it was mentioned at least 7 times by our Presidential candidate and the Democratic establishment now finally talk about this. It’s officially part of her platform and now by proxy the Democratic platform. Do you realize how amazing that is for the YIMBY movement? I’ve tried for a few years to get it in just our state Democratic platform and never got anything is strong.

Electric bus mandates are bad and @KingCountyMetro should walk theirs back. Beyond the potential for service cuts, the opportunity costs of focusing on electrification over route improvements is misplaced effort. All buses are green compared to SOVs.
Electric bus mandates are causing transit service cuts, which are bad for the climate.

it’s not often that I compliment Microsoft, but every time I try a new presentation tool I’m reminded that PowerPoint is still the GOAT and it’s not even close

The Cybertruck's design is reckless. Its weight, acceleration, stainless steel panels, and boxy front could worsen the US road safety crisis. Even so, federal regulators are powerless to halt its launch. That should worry all of us. Me in @Slate 🧵 slate.com/technology/2023/12…

seattle city council just passed 8-0 a new tax on renters disguised as decarbonization of large apartment buildings. single family homes are exempt from the bill entirely. seattle's top emitter is cars, which produce 62% of all our citys emissions.

man, imagine if we had some kind of, like, publicly run entity that could govern and regulate currency. wouldn’t that be wild. probably a pipe dream, though.

You're absolutely right. Web3 hacks are a huge problem, and they're getting worse as more and more people get involved in the crypto space. The lack of regulation and the anonymity of transactions make it very difficult to track down hackers and hold them accountable. But there's also a lack of education and awareness about the risks of web3 and how to protect yourself. Do you think there are any specific solutions that could help improve web3 security? Maybe something like better user education, better auditing of smart contracts, or more robust identity verification processes?

City politicians proclaimed that outdoor dining was here to stay with the passage of permanent legislation this summer. Instead, some of the popular pandemic-era streeteries are turning back into parking spaces. My story for @HellGateNY: hellgatenyc.com/new-nyc-outd…

No more dark afternoons in the winter. No more losing an hour of sleep every spring. RT if you agree that we should end the painfully inconvenient ritual of changing our clocks twice a year and make Daylight Saving Time permanent.

A lot of aggressively antagonistic reactions to this tweet – while I’m somewhat sympathetic, I wonder how many people know the history of the Jewish role in the South African anti-apartheid struggle. (thread)
