For #EYAYourArchives we explored our shelves to uncover items we hadn’t seen before. Each day brings new discoveries, from unfamiliar documents to overlooked details. Today we found an architectural submission for the 1870s design competition for Dublin South City Markets.

As I was involved in setting up PLR in Ireland, I love seeing authors post about their earnings from library loans, even though no one is getting rich from it!
Replying to @FergusCraig
In all seriousness I think it is very cool that authors get paid anything at all for library loans, and even cooler that anyone is borrowing my books.

Yesterday, we bid a fond farewell and heartfelt congratulations to our Chief Fire Officer Dennis Keeley, who moves on from Dublin Fire Brigade after almost 40 years of dedicated service — and begins his next chapter as Assistant Chief Executive with Dublin City Council.
From his early days as a Firefighter on B Watch Tara Street to leading DFB through major milestones and challenges, including COVID-19, Dennis has embodied professionalism, integrity, and true leadership. His vision has driven progress in equality, diversity, innovation, and safety — leaving DFB stronger and more forward-looking than ever.
Beyond Dublin, Dennis has represented Ireland with distinction through the EU Civil Protection Mechanism and as Chair of the Chief Fire Officers Association, shaping national fire service policy and development.
We thank Dennis for his immense contribution, steady leadership, and unwavering commitment to the people of Dublin.
Congratulations on your new role, Dennis — and best wishes to you and your family for the future.
It’s a quiet Trafalgar Day here in Dublin, but the Admiral has his (one) beady eye on the students and researchers in our Reading Room… @TheRestHistory @DCLAReadingRoom @dubcilib

A wonder day full of love and appreciation for Deirdre O'Connell Artist and founder of the Focus Theatre at today's plaque unveiling by @lordmayorofdublin and Sabina Higgins.
It was a privilege to have @presidentirl and Sabina Higgins present with their strong connections and appreciation for Deirdre O'Connell. I was honoured to be speaking as chair on behalf of the Naming and Commemorations Committee. We welcome suggestions for people to commemorate in Dublin but especially women, today marked the 70th plaque and the 13th for a Women.
To meet the Deirdre O'Connell family of Artists from theatre, connected from the Focus Theatre, musicians, singers, actors, writers, costume, production. Thank you to the @dottheatredublin

Then after the plaque unveiling in the presence of the @presidentirl we were invited to visit @Aras an Uachtaráin for a lovely reception and speech from @presidentirl thank you for the invitation to the Naming and Commemorations Committee and to all the staff for their hospitality.
It was amazing to meet so many people including John Sheahan of @thedublinersofficial who I hadn't met in years. I remember him playing at a very early morning session in City Hall many years ago.
Thanks to @dublincitylibraries Brendan Teeling.
To Kathryn and team from @limelight_communications for making sure everything went so smoothly.

We had a great evening last night for the launch of @janeohlmeyer's Gilbert lecture book, titled "Viragoes and Matrons: the lived experiences of women in seventeenth century Dublin". This book is full of interesting research and you can now borrow it from your library.
It was great to see @Roger_Moorhouse at @histfest again this year, and we look forward to seeing @hoyer_kat back again in the not-too-distant future. In fact, they’d make a great double act…
Beer, books, good company and German history - I can think of worse ways to spend an evening in London 😁
