I canât help but think an investment like this mightâve landed in Chicago if the city and state hadnât driven Ken Griffin out after years of conflict over politics, public safety, and the cityâs/stateâs direction. People who dismiss him simply because âheâs a billionaireâ overlook that Griffin gave to Chicago in the old civic tradition of Field and Rosenwald. Griffinâs departure was a loss for us.
đš BREAKING: Ken Griffin is donating $2 BILLION to launch a Carnegie Mellon University campus in Miami.. the largest individual gift to higher education in U.S. history.
The new 35-acre campus will be located in Wynwood and focus on computer science, AI, robotics, technology and innovation.
This is a MASSIVE win for Miamiâs evolution into a global tech and innovation hub.

Miraculous Iowa final drive for the win. The football gods spoke. Dumb Michigan penalty didnât help, followed by a tipped completion, then the winning TD. Those big Hawkeye targets paid off.

No one had a problem with data centers for decades until it became politically expedient... If you care about "health, safety, and quality of life" issues, then why are we developing a casino, putting up slot machines in convenience stores and opening weed shops on every corner?
Seems like the common motivating factor is needing tax revenue - but I guess tax revenue tied to technology is bad now... I thought revenue is revenue?
The truth is that data centers - especially new ones - operate safely and efficiently (particularly with closed loop water cooling). The driving force of higher electricity rates here is our misguided power and energy laws at the state level (see below post).
What happens when we say we want more EVs and electrification of industry, but also make it harder to build more baseload power and prematurely retire reliable generation assets?...
If anything, data centers can help lower power costs by helping build more generation and apportioning fixed costs like transmission and distribution over more users.
Also, the type of data centers the critics have in mind - massive 500 MW + construction projects - aren't getting built in city limits anyways! This is all incredibly frustrating to witness.
The city needs growth and revenue - and we are turning it down under false pretenses for very misinformed political reasons.

Thread on Caleb Williams' hamstring injury:
Caleb Williams went down in today's game without a single defender touching him.
That isn't bad luck. It's the most predictable way a hamstring fails, and it happens in about a tenth of a second.

Iâm sorry but America did not spend 250 years turning âwhatâs over there?â into the most powerful civilization on earth just to finally arrive at the most consequential technological frontier in generations and decide actually weâre scared of frontiers now. We ARE the fucking frontier. We cross oceans. We build railroads across continents. We split atoms. We put men on the moon. We turn sand into computers and computers into a global nervous system.
Of COURSE AI is terrifying. The frontier is SUPPOSED to scare the shit out of you. Thatâs how you know you have, in fact, located the fucking frontier.
The answer is not recklessness, but it sure as fuck isnât paralysis either. Americaâs comparative advantage is an unusually high national tolerance for ambitious weirdos staring at impossible things and saying âYeah... I think I can build it.â That trait is rarer than oil, harder to manufacture than semiconductors, and responsible for a frankly preposterous amount of the modern world.
And you absolutely will not fucking regulate it out of us.

FIFA President Gianni Infantino:
âI have seen the public comments regarding the decision of the independent FIFA Disciplinary Committee related to the suspension of Folarin Balogun, and I would like to reiterate a fundamental principle of FIFAâs governance.
âFIFAâs judicial bodies are independent. They operate autonomously, apply the FIFA Disciplinary Code, and decide cases based on the applicable regulations and the specific facts before them. Their independence is essential to the credibility and integrity of football, and this must always be respected.
âYes, I regularly discuss matters related to the FIFA World Cup with the President of the United States, and on this matter, I did receive a call from President Donald Trump, just as I receive calls from heads of state, government officials, football stakeholders and business executives from around the world on many different issues. During our conversation, I explained that there was an ongoing legal process involving FIFAâs independent judicial bodies and that the case would be decided in due course by the competent bodies. That is how FIFAâs system works, and it is a principle that I will always uphold.
âI read the decisions of the FIFA Disciplinary Committee when they are issued. Sometimes I am surprised by them. Sometimes I agree with them, and sometimes I disagree.
âWhat I always do, however, is respect those decisions and the autonomy of the bodies that make them. Whether we personally like a decision or not is irrelevant. Respect for independent institutions and the rule of law is what protects the integrity of our competitions and the credibility of FIFA at all times.â
