Is your school open during the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic? Here are my suggested school guidelines for minimising infection between kids, staff and the families of all concerned. Stay safe. twitdoc.com/AUQ0
Not strictly CPD, but I learned a lot about how to avoid gibberish, bad writing practice, and the curse of knowledge. Things I have been guilty of when teaching and during my academic studies. Although I'm sure this isn't new to our English teachers youtu.be/OV5J6BfToSw

Early findings from serology testing is hinting that developed immunity to COVID-19 might only last a few months after infection. There are also hints that a re-infection might be worse than the first dose. vox.com/2020/7/12/21321653/g…
👇🏼 personally find this sub-optimal (guidance for the US given high # of cases). School as much about social interaction & play as it is about literacy & numeracy. Govts need to figure out how to suppress the virus so kids can be kids.
The CDC has issued steps to keep children safe when schools reopen, including placing desks six feet apart, ensuring children wear face coverings and the closure of communal areas like playgrounds. Here's what we know about the risks to children cnn.it/3gLrqpi

"The measures that should be taken to mitigate airborne transmission risk include: Avoid overcrowding, particularly in public transport and public buildings." I cannot see how a return to 30+ kids in a classroom aligns with this H&S strategy. watermark.silverchair.com/ci…

Airborne transmission: "This matter is of heightened significance now, when countries are re-opening following lockdowns -bringing people back to workplaces and students back to schools, colleges, and universities" watermark.silverchair.com/ci…
In today's Science, an in-depth article on how schools around the world are re-opening and the COVID-19 control measures being put in place. Generally: Small groups; social distancing; masks sciencemag.org/news/2020/07/…

Experts like Germany's @c_drosten were drafted in to advise governments on how to tackle the COVID-19 pandemic, and quickly became household names. Now they're at the centre of conspiracy theories, media disputes, and receiving death threats. p.dw.com/p/3cxEv

I suspect that @profvrr and his band of virologist chums would be somewhat amazed that UK schools are reopening with 30+ kids in a class, 'year bubbles' of up to 240 kids, no masks.

Apart from 'not-bubbles' of isolated year groups whenever possible, are we good to go with: PE changing rooms? Mixed-year 'sin-bins' for poor-behaviour removals from lessons? Design & tech practicals - without washing every saw each day? A car boot of exercise books for marking?

Do your local COVID-19 numbers look low in your local press? That's great! So you can relax, open your schools more, go to the pub? Not if the numbers are invalid.

Year-group 'bubbles of 100+' How daft is that? Here's a well-considered model for school re-opening from Massachusetts:
So grateful and proud of our @mgh_id Dr. Sandy Nelson for her tireless assistance in aiding our state and @massgov in guiding how to safely open schools. mailchi.mp/doe.mass.edu/pres… @IDSAInfo
30 to room all day- socially distanced in their own bubble of course. Meanwhile: you can only meet outdoors with groups of up to six people max provided you stay 2 metres away Stay alert.

Hockney will have to pass on his crown
Can we get a 👍 RT for @SewellPark Y7 student Lisilda who has spent the past few days in school as a keyworker student, painting this amazing (and big) David Hockney landscape painting on the wall of the Art corridor ...
Led by the science? What would be a crazy scenario for edu? How about a 'MEGA bubble' of 30 kids + teacher in a room? Where's that sci paper- peer reviewed or pre-print? Stay alert, be led by the science.
