There will be a multistate emphasis this weekend in honor of fallen Trooper Christopher Gadd #927, who was killed after being struck by an impaired driver on March 2, 2024. Before the incident, he messaged his detachment that he would meet up with them after "One More Stop."

Happy first day of fall!
Shorter daylight hours, foggy mornings, and changing weather can all create challenges. Slow down, increase your following distance in adverse conditions, stay alert, buckle up, and make sure your wipers, washer fluid, and tires are ready for the season.

🚔 It was a busy Labor Day weekend for VPD officers, including several DUI arrests where children were also in the vehicle. 👎
On Friday, Officer Miller stopped a driver near Main Street and E 37th Street after noticing the vehicle had tabs that expired in May 2020.
During the traffic stop, Officer Miller noticed a strong odor of alcohol coming from the vehicle. The suspect shared he had consumed a few Pacifico beers about 20 minutes earlier.
He declined to perform field sobriety tests and refused a preliminary breath test at the scene, and a family friend arrived to pick up his daughter. He was taken to the precinct, where he provided breath samples nearly two times the legal limit.
The suspect was booked into the Clark County Jail on the following charges:
🔹 Driving Under the Influence
🔹 Reckless Endangerment
🔹 Driving with a Suspended or Revoked License
🔹 Ignition Interlock Violation
If you’ve been drinking, never get behind the wheel. Call a sober friend or use a rideshare service.

As Labor Day weekend approaches, remind yourself that even a small amount of alcohol can affect driving ability. 🍺❌🚗
About one-third of all traffic crash fatalities in the U.S. involve drunk drivers (with BACs at or above .08 g/dL).

Crash Leads to DUI Arrest After Driver Found More Than Twice the Legal Limit
At approximately 6:25 p.m. on Aug. 27, Redmond Police officers responded to a single vehicle collision after a vehicle crashed into a crosswalk median near 148th Ave NE and NE 87th Street.
The driver was arrested for DUI after officers observed signs of impairment. His blood alcohol content was more than twice the legal limit.
Thankfully, no other vehicles were involved and no one else was injured.
Please make a plan before you drink. If you’ve been drinking or using any substance that impairs your ability to drive, don’t get behind the wheel. Use a rideshare, call a sober friend or family member, or find another safe way home.
One decision can change a life. Drive sober.

Speed safety camera enforcement will begin at Redmond High School (17272 NE 104th Street), Redmond Middle School (10055 166th Avenue NE), and Rose Hill Middle School (13505 NE 75th Street) on June 12, 2026. The cameras in these school zones will be fully activated – with citations issued for alleged violations – in the designated school zones, during designated hours, when the school zone beacons are flashing. Designated hours typically include 30 minutes before the start of school and after school until 5 p.m. on school days.
The cameras will be deactivated from June 18 - Aug. 31 while Lake Washington School District is not in session. No citations will be issued during this time.
The Speed Safety Camera Pilot Program aims to create a safer environment for students and families near schools and help fund future traffic safety improvements, creating a safer Redmond for all – now and in the years to come.

A child on a bike should never have to flee from a vehicle intentionally chasing them down on the sidewalk after jumping a curb. It is horrifying to watch, and even harder to imagine how differently this could have ended. Thankfully, the child was unharmed.
Lately, conversations around anti-drunk driving technology have been buried under politics and misinformation online. But at the center of this issue are real people and split-second decisions that can turn deadly.
Technology that can help stop an impaired driver from operating a vehicle before a situation escalates like this is worth taking seriously. This is why MADD continues advocating for anti-drunk driving technology.
