🎃 Halloween is almost here! Redmond Police Department wants everyone to have a fun, safe and spooktacular Halloween. Follow these safety tips and watch our video for even more ways to keep your family and community safe: • Be visible: Carry a flashlight or wear reflective clothing, especially after dark. • Use crosswalks: Look both ways before crossing the street and remind kids to stay on sidewalks whenever possible. • Slow down: Drivers should watch carefully for pedestrians, especially in neighborhoods and near crosswalks. • Check treats: Parents should inspect candy and treats before children eat them. • Stay together: Young children should be accompanied by an adult while trick-or-treating. • Be careful with costumes: Avoid costumes that drag on the ground or obstruct vision, and use battery-powered lights or glow sticks. • Don't drink and drive on Halloween or anytime: Choose a sober driver or call a rideshare if you've been drinking. We'll have extra patrols throughout Halloween, so please do your part to help keep everyone safe.

Driver Arrested for DUI, Tests Nearly 5x Over the Legal Limit On Sept. 23, around p.m., officers were dispatched to an apartment complex in the 8200 block of 149th Way NE for a reported vehicle collision with a fence. The caller reported seeing the driver crash into a fence, back away, and then crash again at another location within the complex, nearly striking a pedestrian on a scooter before continuing to drive through the complex. When officers contacted the driver, they observed several open containers of alcohol in the bed of the truck, as well as an open container in the center console cupholder. The driver refused repeated requests to exit the vehicle, and officers ultimately guided him out. The driver showed multiple signs of impairment, including difficulty standing and slurred speech. He provided a breath sample that showed a result nearly five times the legal limit. He was taken into custody for DUI. A routine records check also revealed multiple prior DUI offenses. Fortunately, no one was injured. If you’ve been drinking, don’t drive. Plan ahead, use a designated driver, call a rideshare, or find another safe way home. Getting home safely is always worth making an extra plan. Case 26-028247

Three of the five suspects in the investigation were taken into custody for various felony charges across multiple cities. On Sept. 15, 24-year-old Terrell Long and 37-year-old Heather Hughes were taken into custody by the @kentpd. Heather was later released for medical reasons. One call. Multiple resources. One impaired driver off the road. On Sept. 8, around 4:00 p.m., a 9-1-1 caller reported an erratic driver on the SR 520 exit heading toward Redmond Way. The caller reported the vehicle was swerving, driving with its windshield wipers on despite the sunny weather, and passing vehicles on the left shoulder. Our Real-Time Information Center (RTIC) heard the call and immediately located the vehicle. RTIC continued monitoring until our Drone as First Responder (DFR) arrived overhead, providing officers on the ground with real-time information about the vehicle and its location. Officers contacted the driver who showed signs of impairment and arrested him for DUI following field sobriety tests. This is a great example of how our 9-1-1 Telecommunicators, RTIC, DFR, and officers can work together to quickly respond to a potentially dangerous situation. And a special thank you to the caller who recognized something wasn’t right and took the time to report it. If you see something that could put others in danger, say something. Your call can make a difference. Case #26-026647

A green light doesn’t always mean go. On Saturday, Sept. 19, at approximately 7:50 a.m., an RPD officer patrolling in the 8300 block of 166th Ave. E observed a driver making a left turn on a solid green light while a pedestrian was crossing the street. The officer stopped the driver, issued a warning, and took the opportunity to review right-of-way rules and pedestrian safety. 🚗 Drivers: Remember to look before you turn. A green light does not give you the right to turn through a pedestrian who is crossing. Drivers must yield to pedestrians in crosswalks and give them enough time and space to safely cross the roadway. 🚶 Pedestrians: Stay alert, make yourself visible, and never assume a driver sees you. And a special thank you to the pedestrian who took this photo and shared it with us! We appreciate community members helping us highlight important safety reminders and keeping pedestrian safety top of mind. Whether you’re driving, walking, or biking, take an extra moment to look out for one another. A few seconds of patience can help prevent a serious collision.

National Co-Responder and Crisis Responder Week | Sept. 13–19 This week, we’re recognizing the professionals who work alongside law enforcement to help people experiencing behavioral health challenges and connect them with the right resources and support. Mental Health Professional Mary O’Brien joined the Redmond Police Department in October 2025 to co-respond with officers to calls where a mental health or social service response may be helpful. Mary works alongside Ofc. Jaric DeHart and Ofc. Kathryn Guess, providing de-escalation, behavioral health assessments, referrals, and connections to community resources. Sgt. Jamie Ford oversees the Redmond Police MHP program, helping strengthen this collaborative approach to serving our community. We’re grateful for the compassion, expertise, and partnership our co-responder team brings to each call. If you or someone you know is experiencing a mental health crisis, help is available 24/7. Call or text 988 to reach the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline. It’s free and confidential.

With Labor Day weekend behind us, school routines are in full swing. As students head back to school, the Redmond Police Department and @NHTSAgov National Highway Traffic Safety Administration remind drivers to: - Stay alert. Watch for students walking, biking and waiting for the bus. - Stop for school buses. Never pass a stopped school bus when its red lights are flashing. - Give students plenty of space. Be especially cautious as students get on and off the bus. - Slow down in school zones. Follow posted school-zone speed limits and watch for students crossing the road. In Washington, speeding in a school or playground speed zone comes with double the standard monetary penalty, and the penalty cannot be waived, reduced or suspended. A single moment of distraction can have devastating consequences. Slow down, stay alert and help keep our students safe! Learn more about school bus safety from NHTSA: nhtsa.gov/road-safety/school…
