Friday 16 October is International Developmental Language Disorder (DLD) Day, so make sure you know what Developmental Language Disorder is, and why everyone needs to know about it. Did you know? Developmental Language Disorder (DLD) is more prevalent than autism. Approximately 1 in 14 people have DLD - that's around 400,000 children in Australia. “Developmental Language Disorder (DLD) is the term used when a person has difficulties with talking and/or understanding language and for which there is no known cause” (Stephen Parsons, 2020). Check out this Padlet of resources I have been curating for several years padlet.com/cforwood/DLDresou… #DevLangDis #DLDay

If students were taught well in the first place, fewer would need Tier 2 intervention. Some students are victims of instructional disabilities, not learning disabilities. This is from my conversation with Anita Archer. Link to episode below ⬇️

Here are a few of the many takeaways from @researchED_Aus Sydney which lived up to my high expectations for research-practice sharing, rigorous discussion, sticky questions and connecting with curious educators. Keynotes from @natwexler and @PamelaSnow2 were a highlight. It is amazing how something as low key as a morning tea can have an impact - a colleague read information shared for #dldday they identified their child as having many features of DLD #devlangdis and now feel empowered to support and advocate for their child #DLDAwarenessDay
