I’m actually in full agreement that property taxes should be abolished. Especially municipalities who recalculate your property tax every year. it’s an unrealized gains tax.

In 1913 the 16th Amendment was passed allowing the government to levy an income tax. The first tax at the time only applied to people who earned over $500,000 in 1913 dollars.
Now federal taxes apply to almost anyone who has the audacity to try to make a living.

A Berkeley chemical engineer who suffered years of unexplained illness discovered through a spy camera from Amazon that her coworker, David Xu, was poisoning her food and water with cadmium, a toxic heavy metal for nearly 18 months between 2017 and 2019. The victim experienced significant health problems and at times required emergency care at a hospital. Newly released video shows Xu appearing to put a substance in her water bottle in 2019.
Xu was arrested that year and charged with attempted murder and two counts of poisoning, offenses that could have sent him to prison for life. But under a plea deal, the attempted murder charge and one poisoning count were dropped. Xu pleaded no contest to one felony poisoning charge and received two years of probation, with credit for one day served. He completed probation in March and is now seeking to have his felony conviction dismissed.
This is actually the mentality that has allowed the left to assume so much power. The right goes “We won’t do ‘X’ because ‘Y’ might happen and be worse”

I used to be against the penalty. I find the state having the ability to execute citizens a concerning proposition.
That being said, this black and white position is hilariously childish. There are people, who commit crimes so heinous, they need to be put down like dogs.
That being said, libertarians against the death penalty, but pro life in prison are childish and merely shifting the burden in the same way.

My dad asked me last month why I’m still renting at 41.
I told him the cheapest decent house around here is about $430,000.
He said, “Then start saving.”
I told him 20% down would be $86,000.
He said, “You don’t need that much. Just put some aside every month.”
So I did the math for him.
After rent, daycare, groceries, insurance and everything else, I’m lucky if I can save $500 a month.
He grabbed a calculator.
$86,000 ÷ $500 = 172 months.
Over 14 years.
He just stared at the screen.
Then he said:
“I put $4,000 down on my first house. Took me less than a year to save it.”
Then he went quiet.
“I honestly thought you were all just spending too much.”
That was the moment it clicked.
He wasn’t trying to be insensitive.
He genuinely didn’t understand how different the numbers are now.
Sometimes people aren’t defending the system.
They just never stopped to look at the math.
