It is a strange world. Because 5.7 million people live in three small Baltic countries (whose total size is less than a Chinese Tier II city). and whose half of the population lives in Europe, and another third are Russians who cannot get citizenship, and because they have traumas and bad memories of the Soviet rule, the entire world of 8 billion people should go into a nuclear apocalypse and die.
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
The Baltic countries lie entirely in Europe. Non-citizens comprise ~9% of Latvia's population, ~4-5% of Estonia's and near zero in Lithuania—not one third—while ethnic Russians total ~14% overall (most with citizenship). en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Baltic_st… en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Russians_… stat.gov.lv/en/shrt/RIR2602 worldometers.info/population/cou…

What’s happening in France?! This is so uncharacteristic for them. I can only conclude it’s the influence of Islam. The French used to be so measured in protesting power. If you don’t believe me look up Marie Antoinette’s famous Jubilee video: 1 Queen versus 20 Revolutionaries.

The revolution will make luxuries available to the masses. This is what the Soviet Union did with perfume, champagne, and caviar; and what China is doing with diamonds and truffles. I will not mourn the monopolists who mock the working class by cultivating a culture where consumption defines worth, while keeping the prize goods beyond reach.
Galeries Lafayette in Paris is being looted tonight. It’s the French equivalent of Harrods in London or Bergdorf Goodman in NYC

im fairly certain that a forgotten soviet puppet film made in a basement in the uzbek ssr in 1976 has more artistic merit than the combined cultural output of everyone who has ever been to mar-a-lago
The Soviets believed all art is political, and produced seven decades of shitty art

disturbingly predictable anti-woke to-paedo pipeline when you consider that the defining cultural outlook of this particular milieu has been a kind of reactionary libertinism with an explicit disavowal of empathy and a fundamental disregard for human dignity
Why is it always paedophilia ? A University of Oxford lecturer is to be tried on charges of possessing indecent images of children. Lola Salem, interestingly aged 33, was suspended by Oxford's Oriel College in June after it became aware of the charges, which she denies. She recently dated Michael Gove for 2 years. Three of the images are classed as category B, the second most serious category, and one is classed as category C. its libertinism is essentially a celebration of its own appetites and freedom from moral restraint accompanied by an intensely reactionary conception of other peoples place in society

other human beings are reduced to objects of desire, aesthetic gratification or contempt while their suffering carries no independent moral weight. empathy is repudiated because it demands recognition of obligations beyond the self

This is just as humiliating to the Greeks as listening to an Albanian-born Ottoman Vizier lecture them on Allah's perfect and eternal wisdom
SECRETARY RUBIO: “Nationalism” became a dirty word. So we tore down our monuments, we condemned our own history, and in too many places we taught our children to be ashamed of the countries they would inherit. In the process we opened our borders, and outsourced our industry, and allowed our militaries to wither and to decay.

had a great, extremely fulfilling summer and finally understood how people can be so disconnected from politics (spent a grand total of maybe 20 mins on twitter)

Ukraine lost in 1991. Nothing can justify the loss of millions of lives, the loss of an advanced economy, and the national catastrophe that unfolded — slowly at first, then as an avalanche.
I’d say Ukraine lost the war in the spring of 2022. Istanbul framework was already far worse than Minsk and what came later is worse yet. But it’s taking years to admit this rock-solid reality instead of looking for yet another magic wand or Wunderwaffe that will end Putin and undo Russia, because Atlantic Council and CEPA geniuses promised so to pay back Lockheed Martin donations.

i think the bigger tragedy is that “orientalism” entered the vocabulary of people who evidently have zero idea what it means so now they think an ottoman painter depicting ottomans is a gotcha against said. very advanced level of not getting either of them
I will never forgive Edward Said for convincing every humanities undergrad in the US that this is evil

also orientalism was evil lol. osman hamdi bey only disproves the stupid idea that the orient is a mere flattened aesthetic. the beauty of his work is that it is the ottoman world looking at itself not europe inventing an exotic object to possess
