The Vanishing Culture report arrives today at a critical moment: While @internetarchive recovers from a cyberattack, it’s a reminder of how fragile our access to knowledge can be. Preserving culture & history requires resilience—and collective action. 🔗 blog.archive.org/2024/10/30/…

A woman who rang ABC Sydney radio said she found out about the Optus outage from her cat. The cat has an automatic wi-fi feeder (connected to Optus) & when breakfast wasn't delivered at 6:10 am, the cat went to the bedroom to lodge a complaint with management.

Whatever that guy is smoking I want some.
Had a conversation about the sun at a Flat Earth Convention and it almost broke us.

We’ve spent 20 years getting people to stop rendering text as images on the web. And that’s about to see a big reversal with twitter’s new link policy

This is horribly bleak. Literally nobody in NSW likes V sets, and we all wish they were fed into crushers decades ago. If this is what Granville trains are like, please send in the Chinese ones ASAP.
Walkmans and pay phones at stations are out - but these NSW made V set trains are still going strong! Built in Granville, this train travels from the Central Coast and Newy to Central via Epping and Strathfield. They're made in NSW and they're made to last.

Today marks ten years since this infographic back page about the Kowloon Walled City was published by South China Morning Post. I explained in a few lectures the ins and outs of this project, and now I will do it here. Long 🧵

No jerks here 💪
Been alive 43 years but only just learned that East Yorkshire used to have double decker buses specially designed to fit through this medieval arch in Beverley. Intensely pleasing.

Millennials are 40. They're project managers with two kids, a mortgage, hypertension medication, and an expired passport they haven't renewed because it costs $400 and their toll road bill has just come in. They don't remember who Joe Hildebrand is, and don't care to find out.
this guy just rehashes the same four or five articles every week and calls it “work”

Our perspective as non-ICT experts on social media is that it appears to be a technology designed to facilitate the theft of pictures of monkeys. Not sure how it would be relevant from an electoral standpoint.

Absolutely horrendous idea which would be a significant accessibility drawback. Don’t do that, ever. Downright terrible—it’s not a CSS tip, it’s a CSS mistake.
💚CSS Tip💚 🛠 Now you can not select the text of the website. 👀👇
