A powerful tribute to India’s unsung heroes — their courage, sacrifice, and stories of extraordinary bravery make Balidan a truly inspiring read.” 🇮🇳📖

When you read Pushpinder Sir’s books & the body of work he has left behind, you wonder why authors like AM Bharat Kumar & him have never received national literary recognition. Military writing is among the most demanding genres which requires not just emotion & art of storytelling but immense research, travel, factual accuracy, technical details & uniquely, yrs of clearances/permissions (& more). For decades, awards like the Sahitya Akademi, Jnanpith, Booker & Pulitzer hv celebrated diverse literary voices & yet military authors never found a place at that table. Why? Authors who hv built a rich body of military literature deserve to be part of that table too. If nothing else, their work instigates love for the nation & encourages youngsters to serve which is as important an attribute as writing about poverty, climate concern, dissent & more.
Losing him during COVID has been one of the biggest losses in the landscape of Indian literature. Hope people acknowledge it.
With Alfred Cooke in 2015 at the residence of Pushpinder Singh Chopra, India's finest military aviation historian and Editor of Vayu. Pushy Sir was the kindest person ever and he first introduced me to Alfred. Today, neither Flt Lt Alfred Cooke nor Pushpinder Singh Chopra are around - two extraordinary humans.
Do read about him & what he did in my book Balidan. He came from extreme poverty, lost his father early in his life & went on to lead such a remarkable life that someone’s writes his story for a book.
P.S: The woman in red is his wife. She had never stepped out of her house or been on a stage before, but she did so for the book launch back in 2023 & look how confident she looks.

Glad my books were part of your celebrations, celebrating Nationalism, Patriotism & youth of this nation.

Thanks for the tag. Best wishes
Independence Day at
@vidyakshetra Gurukulam was extra special this year for us, because we had an officer from the Indian Air Force who joined us with his wife.
He is none other than Retd. Air Vice Marshal Dhananjay Wani ji with his wife Shruti Wani Ji.
We feel extremely proud to have been with them and spent 3 days with them. We were thrilled to listen to their experiences while they were in the forces and the way they served the nation.
He was a part of the operation Safed Sagar (Kargil war) and operation Bandar (Balakot Air Strike) which was a major breakthrough for our nation during war situation with enemies.
As a part of the Independence day celebrations, there were cultural performances and skit by our students. They also presented some topics from the books they have been reading. Here are the names of the books and the authors as well :
- India that is Bharat by J Sai Deepak @jsaideepak
- India: A History by John keay
- 370 Undoing the Unjust by @BlueKraft
- 'Hindu Resurgence - The Modi Way' by Swaraagni @ayodhyabooks
- The Jihad Game by @abhinavpandya
@UsanasF
- Balidan by Swapnil Pandey @swapy6
- Why Bharat Matters by @sjaishankaroffc
@Rupa_Books
Students also presented #kalaripayattu , this time with more students actively learning combat skills with Otta, Lathi and swords under the guidance of Shree Suvrathan Gurakkal, VedaKalari Pathashala, Kerala.
This video is just a glimpse of whole event.

If any Western Army had pulled something like this off for a casevac in a vintage helicopter manufactured in the 60s, their entire state machinery would’ve gone bonkers praising their own & would’ve called it the sortie of the century. Most folks don’t fully realise that the probability of not coming back from such a flight for the pilots is more than a safe return. Next time in an airshow near you, try if you can get a glimpse of the Cheetah’s cockpit. A Maruti Swift dashboard has more components on it.
And yet, our warriors go on and on. Probably landed back, made a good night call home & went to sleep, woke up today for business as usual. Probably both pilots in their late twenties or thirties. Unreal commitment to duty & professionalism. Indian Army for you.

Absolutely, very well said.
She is rock solid behind AP all the time and a rock star in true sense.
Amazingly simple at heart and display both, she can unarm anyone with her contagious smile.
And yet she handles things at highest level very professionally. A rare combination to get in today’s world.
Thanks for bringing her to fore which I am sure she would have resisted. Proud to have them as first couple of IAF.
And thanks for your services to the IAF ma’am @swapy6 through your wonderful writing.

Force Behind the Forces 🇮🇳 – at Mahindra World City, India
Whole world talks about Air Chief Marshal AP Singh & we all admire the man he is. But today, I truly want to talk about his better half, Mrs Sarita Singh. Behind a successful man often stands a woman. For our Air Chief, it’s HER! She is extraordinarily simple, speaks softly & always keeps the Chief ahead of herself. At any event when everyone is around our very charismatic Chief, she never rushes to be noticed but waits patiently for him & cheers when the opportunity arrives.
It is not easy in a world where most of us are self-centric. To put another person (including spouses) before yourself so naturally & gracefully is a magnanimity of another level.
Mrs Sarita Singh very kindly wrote the epilogue to my latest book, Wings of Valour which without doubt is the crown jewel of the book. I don’t think she has ever spoken publicly about her personal life & I feel immensely proud to have her heartfelt, self-written account in my book.
You must read about their life together as a couple. It is very inspiring, esp for newly married Fauji wives & Infact for anyone who wants to understand the strength behind a life in uniform. 🇮🇳
Best wishes & gratitudes to the first family of the Indian Air Force for who they are and what they do for all of us 🙏🇮🇳

Good Morning Mam ☀️
I read your books regularly — Balidan, Wings of Valour, and the others — and they give me the exact motivation and discipline I need to prepare for the Armed Forces.
Every story of courage, sacrifice and quiet strength pushes me to become better and serve the nation the way those soldiers did.
Thank you for creating something so everlasting. Your words are a constant reminder of why I want to wear the uniform. 🇮🇳
Good morning 🌞 In this fleeting world, what an honour it has been to create something so everlasting in the glory of the Indian Armed Forces. 🇮🇳

Last of what remains(their last battle gears, preserved by 617 Garud flight) of Cpl Jyoti Prakash Nirala, Cpl Nilesh Kumar Nayan & Sgt Milind Kishor Khairnar (Garud Special Forces,IAF) after they sacrificed their lives fighting Category A++ terrorists in Kashmir, for Kashmir and for us…..Of course, because of your taxes!
In a nation like ours where we are surrounded by enemies & have active borders, instead of asking, ‘What can we do for you, soldier? How can we make your life easier?’ we hear that soldiers are bound to do what they do because ‘we pay taxes’ or ‘ after all they get canteen.’
It’s not just one person but many people hold the same mindset. I hope they understand & teach their children that taxes or no taxes, freedom is not free. Jai Hind 🇮🇳

Rifleman Jaswant Singh Rawat MVC was only 21 when he fended off 300 Chinese at those impossible heights. At 10,960 ft where the air is thin winds icy cold & the terrain unforgiving, merely reaching Jaswant Garh felt like an achievement. Standing there, I found it impossible to comprehend how the Young Soldier held his position against so many Chinese troops for nearly 72 hours, moving between firing positions & keeping the enemy at bay. The memorial stands north of Sela Tunnel, named after Sela, another young woman(one more Nura out of two local girls) who is said to have sacrificed her life while helping Rfn Jaswant Singh Rawat for the nation.
For me, visiting Jaswant Garh War Memorial was nothing short of a pilgrimage. It should be a must visit place for every Indian, try visiting at least once in your lifetime. It is an arduous journey but do take your children with you too. It’s important they see, feel & learn what it takes to be Free.
August is his birthday month born on 19th August 1941, he would have been 85 years old by now. Tributes on his Birth Anniversary. Naman 🙏🇮🇳

Whatever is happening around the Indian Air Force today reflects the current leadership’s clear vision of soft power. A big credit goes to the Dte of Media & Public relations, led by a very capable Air Commodore & his team. It’s them who identify the right stories, back the right projects & work closely at every stage with creative people to ensure quality. From outstanding books to compelling web-series, the IAF is telling its story like never before. In an era of information warfare, such strategic storytelling is how institutions build the right narrative, counter misinformation & ensure their own stories reach the world.
