Three thumbs up for stepping out of the day-to-day and seeing how the magic happens.
Spent the morning giving @dharmann a behind-the-scenes look at the @surface lab. From the acoustic chamber where we fine-tune every experience, to the rigs that test comfort and durability, to the prototype "thumbs" that press a key thousands of times before a device ever ships.
Fun morning, great conversation, and a reminder that the products we use every day are built on an extraordinary amount of care and innovation.
Coffee ☕, Surface 💻, and a candid conversation.

Microsoft's new Surface Laptop Ultra might be one of the most interesting Windows PCs this year.
-NVIDIA RTX Spark platform
-ARM CPU + Blackwell RTX GPU on a single chip
-Up to 128GB of unified memory
-CUDA support for AI and creative workloads
-Windows on ARM gaming is about to get a serious test
I saw RTX Spark first hand at Computex 2026, and the local AI aspects performed beautifully with Hermes, OpenClaw, and creative apps like Photoshop and Premiere (in a controller environment).
Gaming performed well with both ARM and x86 based Steam games (Alan Wake 2 and Pragmata, respectively).

June was a big month for Surface and the team.
We released the new Surface Pro and Surface Laptop, and at //Build announced Surface Laptop Ultra and Surface RTX Spark Dev Box.
Together, they show how Surface continues to build devices around how people work, create, and move.
What I keep coming back to is the care and craft behind them: the research that helps us understand those workflows, the design choices you feel across hardware and software, and the engineering work that makes the whole product feel considered.
Proud of the team and the attention they put into every detail.
The team made a short film to show a little of the work behind all of it:

New colors do look outstanding. I love the sage green. May overtake the blue with Alcantara for my favorite Surface color.

I love minigreen (my jade 13" Surface Laptop). I'm excited for these devices to now be available - not only are they wicked fast, but the color makes me smile every time! 💚
Great for students, especially with the student discount :)
Today we're introducing the next Surface Pro and Surface Laptop. Powered by Snapdragon X2 processors, they're faster and more efficient, and both are available starting today 🚀.
These devices are the result of a relentless team that cares deeply about the details, from the haptic touchpad you feel the moment you touch it, to our new color for Surface Laptop, Jade. We can't wait to hear what you think! blogs.windows.com/devices/20…

Watching Microsoft Build 2026 online right now.
Satya Nadella just unveiled the Surface RTX Spark Dev Box — purpose-built for developers, 1 petaflop of AI compute, 128 GB of unified memory. He called it "the AI data center for your desktop." A bit dramatic, but not wrong.
I've signed up for the waitlist.
What caught my attention isn't the specs. It's the direction. Run models locally, run agents locally, no token cost anxiety. That changes how developers — and the products they build — think about AI.
This doesn't replace frontier models — but it opens up a category of work that the cloud economics simply didn't encourage before.
Good to see Microsoft focusing back on developers and power users.
