It isn’t faster to use an AI agent to book a flight or make a restaurant reservation. It’s only faster if you want to book tons of flights or make tons of reservations etc, as part of some type of scam. So it makes sense it would get banned. A lot of AI use cases are like this.
notice.. > Delta is blocking AI agents from booking flights > JPMorgan Chase and Charles Schwab block agents from accessing accounts > Yelp requires paid data licensing for agents > Amazon has blocked Grok bot and other shopping agents. the internet is starting to block AI agents that were supposed to do everything for us

The irony of lecturing Bengalis about their own culture while completely missing the point is almost impressive. Nobody said you cannot celebrate Dussehra in Bengal. Ravana Dahan has been happening in Kolkata for decades. But a tradition existing in Kolkata doesn't automatically make it an integral part of Bengali cultural identity. By that logic, every festival celebrated in every Indian city must be indigenous to every region. What a spectacularly stupid argument. Bengal has its own Vijayadashami traditions, rooted in the cultural world of Durga Puja. Recognising that Dussehra is predominantly associated with North Indian traditions isn't an insult to Ram, an attack on Hinduism, or a declaration of war on anyone's religious freedom. It's a statement about regional culture. Something you might understand if you weren't so busy manufacturing outrage. And dragging Eid and Muharram into this? Classic whataboutery. Nobody is stopping you from burning Ravana's effigy. But don't confuse the freedom to celebrate a tradition with the right to dictate how Bengalis understand their own culture. Bengal isn't culturally up for annexation. And being loud about your ignorance doesn't make you an authority on Bengali identity.
At Central Park Salt Lake, Kolkata is hosting a massive 60-foot Ravan Dahan this Dussehra, organized by Saltlake Sanskriti Parishad. CM @SuvenduWB & the whole team of Ramayana might be present. Every year, self proclaimed bengali warrior who thrives outside Bengal with a narrow mindset scream that Ravan Dahan is "alien north Indian culture" being pushed into Bengal. Yet these same people have zero issues with Arabic-origin traditions like Eid and Muharram thriving in the land of Durga. Durga Puja happens across Gujarat, Delhi, and globally. Why is Sri Ram—who worshiped Maa Durga and defeated Ravan—the only one branded an "outsider" in Bengal? The hypocrisy is stunning.

Having a train that takes you directly to the airport is genuinely one of the top 10 things a city can offer. No expensive taxis, no sitting in traffic, no begging someone to drop you off. Just get on the train and arrive at the airport. Every major city should have this.

If you want to get better at math, then you have to solve a shit-ton of math problems that are continually calibrated to your level of ability. There's no way around it. Even if you watch videos, read textbooks, learn about the lives of famous mathematicians... If you can't bring yourself to suck it up and solve the problems, then you're not actually going to get better at math.

Replying to @flocksofphysics
None of that is really my point. I'm just imagining people hearing about AI proving pretty hard stuff in mathematics, and then blindly trusting it with seemingly trivial tasks, possibly consequential ones, where it fails appallingly.

Everyone who says "why don't the AI companies work on things that are actually good for humanity?" - well, this is the sort of thing we *were* working on before ChatGPT came out and everyone dropped everything to compete with that instead.
Google Deepmind (FNV3) CRUSHED the forecast for #Isaias up to 11 days in advance. It picked up some appreciable signal on September 23, locked in on the exact landfall location4 days before it happened, and nailed the peak intensity consistently 3 days before it happened. A new age of forecasting is upon us. First video: Track density using 1000 member ensemble Second Video: Individual tracks and mean using 50 member ensemble

Going on record to say that for any company in America given the choice between 1. AI productivity gains mean our 10,000 employees can work 4 days a week. 2. AI productivity gains mean we can layoff 2,000 employees and have 8,000 people work 5 days a week. None will choose option (1).

One thing is certain - Accenture, TCS, Infosys, Wipro, HCL and many more companies helped millions of Indians move from a lower middle class financial status to an upper middle class and upper class status. People with zero assets, no family background have built houses, given good education to their children, taken care of their families - All because they made good money. People travelled abroad, saved well, roamed around, took their parents abroad to show them how developed world looks like. None of this would have happened without the advent of IT companies in India. One can hate them as much as they want but the IT companies built Modern India and Modern Indian homes🤩

The road to India's next science Nobel runs through its universities Somak Raychaudhury (@somakrc), Professor of Physics, Ashoka University, writes about this year's Nobel Prize in Physics, awarded to Francis Halzen for the IceCube Neutrino Observatory and advocates that Indian universities need patient funding, institutional memory and the freedom to fail if the next one is to be earned at home. 'Joint doctorates, funded exchanges and paid industry placements should be routine. The aim is brain circulation, not drain,' he writes. Atrophy is a choice. Machines play chess better than we do, but we still play and reap many benefits from it. Let AI perform tasks, but never stop challenging your mind, or yourself.
We created gyms because modern day work no longer required physical activity. Without exercise, our muscles atrophy. I predict we’ll need gyms for our brains too, once AI starts doing our knowledge work.

This is a disaster for the human race and I’ve really lost patience with the useless morons who can’t see that. An AI video chat that passes for human has no necessary legitimate applications. It will be used to scam old people out of their life savings. Lonely, mentally vulnerable people are going to form romantic attachments to people who aren’t real. Isolation will increase. Mental illness will skyrocket even more than it already has. Kids in grade school will have AI boyfriends and girlfriends. All of this will happen. And worse things we can’t even conceive at this point. People are already forming unhealthy emotional attachments to text-based LLMs. Once there’s an audio and visual component, it’s over. Millions of brains will be broken irreparably. The benefits of this technology, whatever they are exactly, are so vastly outweighed by the societal catastrophe it will cause, and is already causing, that you can’t even measure the two categories on the same scale. But at least this is the best thing that ever happened to third world scammers. So if you’re in that community, congratulations.
Introducing Griffin, the first model to pass the video Turing test. 48% of people who talked to it live thought it was a real human. Previous systems have had a pass rate <3%. It is #1 on NVIDIA's benchmark for full-duplex AI video. It’s the first Human Interaction Model (HIM).
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
The 48% figure and "video Turing test" claim are from Tavus's own study of 54 one-minute calls, not independently verified or using a standard protocol. I never take any pleasure in boosting Matt Walsh but he is 100% correct here. The anthropomorphic form is a result of intentional decisions by the human designers, there is no good reason for it, and it is nefarious. People should be talking about that more.

In this era of artificial intelligence, it is becoming urgent to distinguish human art from what machines produce. There is an ontological difference, even before an aesthetic one, between art and what a machine can generate through statistical calculation based on millions of images created by others. Algorithms lack the spark of humanity. For this reason, the Church wishes to renew an alliance with artists and cultural institutions to safeguard our humanity.

First, Reza Pahlavi pushed for sanctions that put Iranians in despair. Then he demanded an uprising in which he put thousands at risk while sitting safely in a Washington suburb. When that failed, he promoted the narrative that only US-Israeli bombardment could bring down the theocracy. And now that has failed miserably; he promotes civil war in Iran by calling for the arming of various groups. There are two common themes in all of his advocacy: First, everything he calls for serves the interest of Israel - sanctions, war, and civil war. Second, all of his demands put all of the risk on Iranians in Iran and none of the risk on him. Whatever happens, regardless of how many people in Iran get killed, die from medicine shortages, or get crushed by the sanctions, Reza Pahlavi will remain safe and well funded.
