Look at him, thats my Qual. Your what? My Qualitative! My vibe specialist. Look at him, you notice anything different about him? Look at his face. I'll give you a hint, his name is Jayden. He won a local poetry competition in bushwick! Yeah I'm sure of the vibe.
Quant firms are hiring idea guys, not quants I've been skeptical about the whole - software is commoditized, ideas are the moat argument But I've seen first hand the best quant and technical firms in the world hire thinkers, liberal arts grads, and generalists I predict the trend accelerates Letter from @AQRCapital below

It is infuriating realizing how much these mobsters cost us. If they died off and we got automated ports, we could be so much wealthier, so much more resilient, and so much less at risk of being held hostage by these evil men again.
Two years ago today this man told us "I will cripple you" (referring to the entire U.S. economy) if we didn't give his east coast port union workers what they wanted (60%+ wage increases and a pledge of no automation of our ports). It worked btw, he got all his demands.

Listen just because I happily listen to the n-word 100 times a day when it’s uttered by my friends or my favourite hip-hop artist, doesn’t mean I’m not going to take maximum offence when it’s uttered by a disabled man with an uncontrollable condition that makes him say bad words
📺 Tourette's activist John Davidson to watch BAFTA separately after N-word outburst. tmz.me/4zcxXS7
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
John Davidson's reported "N-word outburst" at the BAFTAs was an involuntary vocal tic from his Tourette's syndrome (coprolalia), not intentional, as he and reports on his condition confirm. variety.com/2026/film/awar… bbc.co.uk/news/articles/… theguardian.com/film/2026/feb/…

We should allow mass port automation, but require the robots and software to be American-made. That might be enough demand to justify the fixed costs of domestic production, while providing a patriotic offset to the inevitable longshoremen backlash.

This is a level of seriousness you’re not seeing anywhere else in the ai discourse
Ben Affleck (Hollywood star & Artists Equity CEO) talks about how he fine-tunes open video models by unfreezing weights and trained only the last cinematic layer so a film crew can hit real production standards. for context, Ben Affleck founded InterPositive in 2022, a 16-person AI shop for film post and Netflix bought it in March 2026 for $587 mn in cash. He needed that model because public video models were trained on his peers' films, and he did not think that was a real business. So InterPositive raised money, shot its own dataset for 8 months on a controlled stage, and used it only as late-stage training. Each new film then trains a private model on its own dailies, so the production keeps the footage and the learning. That is the product Netflix paid $587 million for. ---- From "Bloomberg Live" YouTube channel, (link in comment)

Oh, you're worried about a Jewish guy's apocalyptic cult? You're scandalized that they consort with prostitutes? You think their message of compassion for everyone threatens normal bonds of family, community, and nation? Should we throw you a party? Should we invite Pontius Pilate?

This bipartisan permitting reform deal is so good
🚨 WE HAVE A PERMITTING DEAL🚨 And it is easily the best permitting bill we've ever gotten! - The Bipartisan American Affordability and Jobs Act is HUGE (400+ pages) and both sides got a LOT. - The bill is much bigger and better than either Manchin post-IRA in 2022 or Manchin-Barrasso in 2024. Once I finish reading the text I'll publish an explainer. For now, here are a few high level takeaways. 1. Transmission: The bill is absolutely HUGE for transmission, going further than Manchin-Barrasso. Includes: interregional transmission, limited federal backstop authority, interconnection queue reforms, directives for advanced grid-enhancing tech, and oversight of utilities. It's absolutely AMAZING all of this got in. 2. NEPA: The bill has BIG changes to NEPA, including fixes for judicial review that underpins the law's costs. Still reading but this is even better than I expected! 3. Certainty: The bill includes strong provisions to push back on misuse of permitting, like we're seeing with the admin's abuses against offshore wind. 4. Historic Preservation: The bill includes changes to the NHPA 106 process, including changes to judicial review that will help right-size the process. 5. Clean Water: The bill fixes problems with section 401 by adding new requirements for states and makes section 404 nationwide permits easier to comply with. 6. Geothermal: The bill includes big wins for geothermal, including parity with oil and gas catexs. 7. Mining: The bill fixes the "Rosemont decision" 8. Endangered Species: The bill creates a new path for states to take on endangered species consultation. 9. Hydro: Fixes for certain hydroelectric projects 10. Ratepayer protection: The bill adds protections for ratepayers from added data centers. Looks to be stronger than the House passed bill by quite a bit.

If you ask Claude to write the worst writing sample possible—so bad that when shown to a fresh Claude for grading, it will score a 1 out of 10—he can’t do it. The worst he can do is a 2. Yep, seems some things still need a human touch…

The fact that the Trump admin is doing so many amazing and useful things, largely unheralded, disproves at least 1/2 of the main Trump detractor theses: that he only cares about personal acclaim/wealth, or that he’s surrounded by idiots. Trump’s actions in all kinds of unglamorous areas like nuclear deregulation will be a boon to the country for years to come, and he’ll get very little personal credit. So either he actually cares about doing good, or he appoints such virtuous people. Not consistent with the picture of him as a selfish/dumb kleptocrat whose only criterion for appointments is personal loyalty.

Claude was named after an American, thank you. I no more recognise the French claim to the name "Claude" than I recognise their claim to Louisiana. We settled this.
What’s the point of giving Claude a French name if it’s not gonna cheat
