You might have seen recent reports of #turtledove being released in the UK in an attempt to help them recover. Read my blog to find out why I, and many others, don't think this is a good idea. gwct.org.uk/blogs/news/2026/… Web photo credit: Anastasiia Merculova

Did you twitch the Yellow-browed Bunting on 22/9/1992 on North Ronaldsay? If so we wonder if anyone has an image of the bird? If you have an image and would be willing to share it with us please email to: [email protected]

Talk about population explosions. Never recorded Saltmarsh Knot-horn (Ancylosis oblitella) [left pic] on ivy flowers before this year and had 39 of them last night. Also 16 Vestals. Desperate lack of other species though. I suspect drought-stricken.

The blunted pencil is better than the sharpest mind. What the vicar observed 200 years ago.

That is sharp.
A curlew sandpiper landing at Bald Hill Beach a couple of seasons ago. Curlew sandpipers are listed as critically endangered here in Australia. They will be returning soon from their northern hemisphere breeding grounds and I do hope they are not hit hard by bird flu.

Chiffchaffs on the move through the garden. Not "chiffchaffing", but "hueetting" at this time of year.

Sparrowhawk plucking pigeon during a #VillageCricket game my brother was umpiring today. He moved from Square Leg to Point to get a better view of the plucking. As you do.

"Booming bitterns bouncing back." My latest for @scribehound_ctr following a fascinating visit to RSPB Lakenheath Fen, and a lengthy chat with Bittern expert Graham White. When it comes to "rewetting", it seems the real missing link is the reed cutter. share.google/hMQms7w8Njwh7E1…
